dangerous situation. This use of the term derives from the time of French colonization in Algeria (1830-1962)."

I know a priest who was told by a an old chaplain to the French Foreign Legion during WWII that he obviously had the "baraka". He had had some amazing escapes from accidents - one, a road accident, I recall.

I think Barak is a "man of destiny", and as such, if Churchill and Shakepeare (as well as MLK's prophetic visions) are any guide, could have had some intimation of it in his youth.

Re the old French Foreign Legion chaplain, he used to love to recount the story of how he once fell in a vat of wine, and proceed to conjure up the vision in Isiah 63:1:

"Who is this coming from Bozrah in Edom with his clothes stained bright red? Who is this dressed in splendor, going forward with great strength? 'It is I, the LORD. I am coming to announce my victory. I am powerful enough to save .'"
