patting my face very gently with her paw. We rescued her in her kittenhood from some abusive children and although she was very attached to us, she was never a lap cap and hated being picked up. But when she was diagnosed with cancer, the vet, as well as my sister, told me that "when she is ready to go, she'll let you know." It was in January, and we had a blizzard with so much snow that we couldn't drive the car up the hill to our house. Noodle got on the back of the sofa, just behind my head and started purring very loudly and patting my face with her little white mitten. I knew what she was asking me to do, so after communing with her for awhile, I put her in her carrier and walked down the hill in 2 feet of snow to take her to the vet. Fortunately, the weather had turned beautiful, the sun was shining and the highway was clear. The vet's office was a mile down the road, and Noodle's little body died peacefully. For months afterwards, I felt her warmth and heard her purring loudly behind my right ear. Many times at night, I feel the presence of little "ghost" cats jumping up onto the bed and walking around a bit before they settle down. I've always wanted a houseful of cats and, in a way, I guess I do.
