29. My cat did the same in January.
She was my pet from 6wk old to 16 yrs. I was never really a "cat" person, but she acted more like a dog. Slept on her back, growled at the door. Slept with her head on your foot, played fetch. She could purr as loud as a motor.

She had been going downhill for awhile. Hubby and I just couldn't see putting her down - she wasn't in pain and she really wanted to be with us. She didn't like our new house much, hated the carpet in the living room and did not go in there if she could help it. I went in to check on our son, who was sick. Cashmere came in, sat down at my feet and meowed. I picked her up and held her in my arms like a baby. Within two hours, her paws started to feel cold and she started with the catch breaths. She was surrounded by our family and she went to sleep in my arms - breathed out and never breathed back in again.
