17. If we can win in 2006 and 2008

We will have a warrant for change unlike what we would have had in 2000. I'm not suggesting that it's good we were screwed out of the White House then. I'm just saying that after eight years of this guy and the Repugs, we may have an opportunity to pursue a handful of progressive changes that we might not have had otherwise.

I don't think we need anything worse that what is going on now to gain power and the ability to do something with it. I don't know this for sure, but that's what I believe. Our opportunity is coming. Bush and the Republicans are like a TV show that has been on way too long. People are just getting fatigued from hearing their message. All they can do is continue to articulate the same crap Reagan did 20 years ago. It's just gonna get old with the voters. That's the disadvantageous flip side of the strategy of the RW noise machine.

They have gained alot of political capital by portraying people on the left as constantly bitching about some PC thing or other. Constantly judging and scolding the behavior of "ordinary" Americans. Well the God squad on their side is sounding increasingly loud and shrill and I think people are getting tired of hearing them bitch about us. They'll vote for us just because they want these RW blowhards to STFU.

Progressive change might not ultimately result from a future depression or war the way it did under FDR. I'm sure you don't want those things to happen in any case (I certainly don't), but I think they're just as likely, perhaps more so, to turn things even uglier and further to the right. The RW's strategy is like a tantrum that can only be sustained for so long. We'll get another chance to govern under normal conditions, sooner, I think, than later. All we need to do is present a fresh, smart and coherent alternative.
