"I can take you to the guy who's supposedly runnning things, but he isn't really a 'leader.' I mean, you came all the way here from your home world in your interstellar saucer thingy there, and this guy can't even ride a human-powered device called a 'bicycle' without falling down and hurting himself. And the first bicycle was built and ridden over 150 years ago! Trust me, you don't want to talk to him."

or

"Our leaders suck--how about you take me to yours, instead?"

or

"It's customary to give our current leader a bag of pretzels like this. If he falls down while eating one and starts flopping around and turning blue, that's just his customary way of showing gratitude. Whatever you do, don't help him up. That's considered rude."
