11. Yes...
The CNN reporter that's in Baytown is at the farthest north part of town on I-10. My parents live on the other side of town, 20 minutes away. We are closer to La Porte than we are to San Jacinto Mall/I-10. We have Cedar Bayou 2 minutes down the road from us. Cedar Bayou feeds directly into the Houston Ship Channel, which as you may know is part of Galveston Bay/Gulf of Mexico. We are close enough to the water to take a 5 minute drive to the boat ramps to put our boat in. And it's northeast of Galveston. The northeast part of a hurricane is where the worst storm surge happens. I'm glad my parents left at least. They were telling me yesterday that they weren't going to leave, but the video footage from earlier today showing Galveston already flooded with no wind or rain convinced them to get the hell out of dodge. My aunts house in Pasadena is around 20 minutes west further inland, but they will surely lose power.
