48. That is likely true - and it is sad that those on our side are
sometimes hurting the effort, while thinking they are helping. I do think that Ted Kennedy might be able to swing votes by putting out an appeal with his usual eloquence and clear statement of fact that at this time will also carry the unspoken fact that he has put his heart into designing this bill over the last year as his health declined.

I think the left is really doing a poor job here. I seriously doubt the nasty, but ineffective ad that the Bold Progressives made, which DFA has front paged and supported will do anything but hurt the Democratic party. Rather than sell a positive idea, it is essentially calling Democratic Senators corrupt based on campaign contributions. I really do not see how this moves those Senators or moves the people in their state to petition their Senator to support the type of program they want. Currently, they are running ads against Max Baucus. They plan additional attacks on other Senators, including John Kerry, who has been for the public option they want from day 1. All this could do is create more cynicism and cause people to be LESS likely to contact him. He was just re-elected last year, so at least it won't hurt us in an upcoming general election.

This is a huge waste of Democratic energy and money and is more likely to hurt our cause rather than help. I have supported DFA in the past and I did write letters to them on this - as have others. This is their decision - but I can't go there with them and I will criticize them on every board I can over this decision. I can no longer support them.
