that many Americans still hold onto this notion that there is something shameful about asking for help from the government. Corporations and the wealthy don't miss a beat, but hardworking, honest, salt-of-the-Earth Americans still have this idealistic notion about being ruggedly independent and that somehow, this will magically save them. Meanwhile, they deplete their retirement accounts to pay bills, and then will find, come retirement time, that nobody cares.
