I am watching an old movie with real footage from WWII, stars Gregory Peck -- 12 O'Clock High is the name.

When I think about the sacrifices that American soldiers have made over the years in wars, just and unjust, it shocks me that the richest Americans do not want to pay the fair share of taxes it would take to repay the Social Security bonds of the poorest Americans including many veterans.

Where is the patriotism? Where is the dedication to the Union? "One nation under God, with liberty and justice for all" is surely not a meaningless phrase today.

After all, who has benefited more from wars like the War in Iraq than the oil industry?

Why are they not willing to pay the full measure of the their taxes?

Think of the young men who paid the full measure of their lives so that these oil companies could drill Iraqi oil and sell it to us and others around the world at great profit. But they cannot even give up oil subsidies they don't really need although they must know it would be for the good of the country.
