Because any one of those kids (or all of them) have a very very strong lawsuit case against Penn State University for failure to stop this guy especially since the rumors started as far back as 1999.

By firing those involved with this case the trustees can come back and say "We didn't know what was happening but when we found out we fired them so go sue the ones who knew and didn't make the call"
