87. They did some good stuff
Their debut is actually a very good album in my opinion. (And this is even considering the fact that I've always disliked the song "Semi-Charmed Life".) It had some other singles that were quite good ("Losing a Whole Year", "Thanks a Lot", "How's It Going to be?"), but also some very interesting, surprisingly deep tracks towards the end ("The Background", "Motorcycle Drive By", "God of Wine") and some other very catchy could've-been-singles like "Good for You" and "London."

Their second album Blue had its moments, like "Anything", "Wounded", and "Darkness" but it didn't get to me the same as the debut. It didn't seem as personal; it was similar to the debut except with a harder, darker sound and worse lyrics.

Their third album was a disappointment to me, though, 'cause I waited on it to come out forever and only liked a couple songs. It's kind of interesting, with the majority of the songs about the lead singer Stephan Jenkins dating and breaking up with Charlize Theron, but the songs rarely stick in your head which is something 3EB had always done in the past, at least to me.

82. Hey, pre-'76 Chicago is nothing to be ashamed of
Well, at least in my opinion... that's some of the best pop-rock of the seventies. They did some good jazzy stuff (especially Chicago VII) and even rocked out sometimes, especially on the earliest albums. Their sound did change in the eighties: they lost their talented guitarist Terry Kath, toned down the horns, and their music developed that sterile "sheen" so common to "pop" music that came out in the eighties. But even then they did some good, if cheesy, singles, even if their albums weren't nearly up to the quality they used to be.

61. That's EXACTLY why I like Enya (and Yanni and Kenny G).
Whether or not they're regarded as good musicians by the congniscenti, my body relaxes and many of those below-noticing little pains and aches just go away when I listen. It's not a 'left brain' thing (unless that's where the beta waves are quiesced) - and I refuse to give in to pretension.

Some music I just regard as soul-healing, even if others may regard it with disdain. I refuse to use any music as cannon fodder for my disdain. If it helps the pain go away, I listen.

Some of the music I've listened to for many years, that does this "soul-healing" includes, (off the top of my head) ...

Medicine Woman - Medwyn Goodall
Common Threads - Bobby McFerrin
Orinoco Flow - Enya
Nightingale - Yanni
Chase the Clouds Away - Chuck Mangione
Bellavia - Chuck Mangione
Be Kind To Yourself - David Roth
Out From The Deep - Enigma
Celestial Soda Pop - Ray Lynch

feel like I should confess--they were my intro to, what I considered then--Metal! I got "Shout At the Devil"--and I liked it! And to this day, I consider "Home Sweet Home" one of my favorite songs. A piece of *art* even. And I sing along when it's on 'MMR. ("Nona" is also rather lovely--"Theater of Pain" is, I believe, underrated. A well-done album.)

"Galveston" and "Wichita Lineman" are both great slices of pop-country-MOR...whatever-you'd-call-it. And "Where's the Playground, Susie?" honestly puts a lump in my throat everytime I hear it. Somewhere towards the end where all the words he's saying have sunk in and it fades out with some nice guitar work... Not sure what it is but it gets to me!

42. Not many, but there are a few
I like many pop artists both old and new, but I'm only ashamed of my like of a few.

Lindsay Lohan - her debut album is driven along by a likable energy on upbeat songs and an earnestness on ballads, but the album Speak is not that good

Hanson - because they are known for the girls liking them so much and I'm a male

Rachel Farris - talk about a young sounding voice! But her music is catchy and she's a good writer

Phil Collins - SOME of his work (for Genesis; on albums But Seriously and Testify) is enjoyable

Britney Spears's In The Zone and a couple songs from before that album

43. I have no shame. I like what I like.
I can't think of a single artist or band I would be "ashamed" to say I liked.

I own music from such varied sources as The Statler Brothers, The Carpenters, Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, John Taylor, The Go-Go's, The Bangles, Tony Orlando, Johnny Cash, John Mellencamp, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, Rick Springfield, Dean Martin, Aerosmith, and dozens of others.

My tastes can't be pinned down to any single genre or type, and I am ashamed of none of them.

68. I love Vanilla Fudge
Maybe they employed the "take the pop song and make it 'metal' by doubling/tripling its length and adding in heavy drums and bass and dramatic vocals" gimmick one too many times... but often, the result was better than the original. "You Keep Me Hangin' on" is my favorite version of the song, and "Some Velvet Morning" totally transforms that one also, and in a good way. They also had some great originals like "Come by Day, Come by Night", "Take Me for a Little While" (their second-biggest hit, charting at #39), and "Where Is My Mind?"

I just discovered the band that they morphed into, Cactus, as well. They are harder, faster, bluesier, not quite as psychedelic, and also very good.

"This is It", "Celebrate Me Home", "I'm Alright", "What A Fool Believes" (he co-wrote it)

Pop, pop, pop, but that's okay

63. My first ever concert, in 1974 (?) was Loggins & Messina
I think Anne Murray opened for them.

I like what I like; I'm not embarrassed by any of it, or worried that I don't seem to like much that other people love.

I have a particular reason for still being fond of Loggins and Messina all these decades later, that I won't post on a public message board.

I have to say that, while I've heard some of what Kenny Loggins has done since they broke up, I have no idea whatever happened to Jim Messina.

64. My SO asked the same thing - what ever happened to Messina?
I'm not ashamed of liking Kenny Loggins; it's pure pop, and not the "arty" or innovative music my SO treasures. It might be self-consciously mushy, but "House at Pooh Corner" atill tugs the heartstrings (no, I don't own any Thomas Kinkade "art" either).

I have a theory that anything that was popular when a person was between ages 14-18 is going to rise to the top of their favorites list even if its the worst sort of dreck

67. Good theory.
I can still sing, word for word, songs I listened to between the ages of 12 and 18, and enjoy it, even though I know, from a musical standpoint, that it's garbage. I'm still a teenager when I hear it, I guess.

House at Pooh Corner is a favorite; I can sort of play it on the guitar. I always thought it was a song about lost innocence; it reminds me of my oldest son, and brings tears to my eyes.

Linsay Buckingham. Better than Christine, better than Stevie (sorry, it's true!).

Holiday Road beats I'm Alright for cheesy Chevy Chase movie songs any day! Go Insane and Trouble are just icing on the cake!

70. Not many
I like a lot of groups that many people would be ashamed to admit to liking, but I've gotten to where I take pride in my "musically incorrect" taste. Some bands I like that are "uncool" include Chicago, Styx, Uriah Heep, Kansas, and Bread. I also like a lot of late-sixties bubblegum (the early stuff, where the term actually applied to a certain "sound", rather than just anything teenybopper girls liked) like the Ohio Express, the 1910 Fruitgum Co., etc. I like one-hit-wonders (often actually three-or-four-hit wonders) from all eras... to me, just 'cause an artist never had much success beyond a couple of songs doesn't mean they never did other good stuff; sometimes it's fun to discover what else they did. So with everything from Iron Butterfly and Paper Lace to Seven Mary Three and Third Eye Blind (with some Milli Vanilla thrown in for good measure) in my collection, there's plenty for me to be ashamed of... but I'm not. :-)

83. 80's glam bands: Bon Jovi, Poison, Motley Crue, some others.
I'm really not embarrased, though; I just think maybe I *should* be.

85. Awesome
Good to see someone else admit it!

You know what I never got about the whole Milli Vanilli thing is this... OK, if someone always thought their music sucked, from the beginning, before the "scandal", etc., that's one thing. I know there's a lot of people (probably plenty of people on DU) who felt/feel that way. But what I never got were the people who bought the album when it was big, presumably because they liked the music... and then decided they wanted to return it, they hated it, etc., etc. after they found out the guys who "played" Milli Vanilli in the media weren't really the people singing. That makes no sense to me. If you like how music sounds, how can you suddenly dislike how it sounds because the people you thought were singing it turn out to be fakes? Now, I can totally understand reassessing the "talent" of the musicians you have now determined to be lipsyncers, or reassessing the ethics of all of those involved in the act and their music... But if you liked how the music itself sounded I just cannot see how finding out it's someone else singing would deteriorate its quality at all.

Anyway, that was just a pointless ramble of mine, but that's just something that has always bothered me about the whole Milli Vanilli debacle.

92. I'm not ashamed but maybe most wouldn't admit to liking
The Wiggles - My son watches one of their DVDs a lot. They're a lot of fun and their songs are catchy. It's really cute to watch my son try to sing some of their songs and imitate their dance moves too.

N'Sync - They have good voices and sound good together. I liked that Bye, Bye song. A lot of their songs I think are cheesy, but they are great performers and can sing very well. Justin Timberlake is very talented singer, even though a lot of people like to trash on him. I though Cry Me A River was a good song, but I don't like the rest of his solo songs.

Destiny's Child - They also all have great voices and sound very good together. They are very talented. I think it's a shame when they waste their talent on some of the more ghetto sounding songs. I think Beyonce is way better with the group than without them.

Christina Aguilera - The girl has a awesome voice, I just wish she could do some better songs.

Celine Dion - The same can be said for her too.

All disco music - I love it! KC rocks! The Bee-gees and ABBA are cool too. I love that Fernando song. Disco music is so fun.

Duran Duran and B-52's- Their music is so fun!

Jessica Simpson - I think she has a good voice.

Rammstein - I love how scary they sound. Heavy metal sounds really threatening when sung in German.
