Bumped into a high school friend for the first time in 30 years.

I was getting my car serviced, and I was commenting on his really nice restored vintage pickup truck when I realized who he was. After the handshake and the greeting, I asked how his brothers were. That question changed the whole direction of the conversation to politics. His older brother was not speaking to the rest of the family because the guy I was talking to and the other siblings voted for Trump. It took this right winger 30 seconds to go from "Nice truck" to hateful politics. He went on to tell me how much he really hated BLM as it was a Communist front. He then checked himself for a second with the comment, "I don't know what your politics are." I just replied that I had no politics and said my goodbyes and good lucks. Fuck him, and the truck he rode in on....

Growing up in a small town you get to know just about everyone in about a ten mile radius. Of the people I grew up with, the people I knew, and the people I knew by reputation, it must be 90% or better that have gotten on the hate train. I am very curious, being that I came from the same circumstances, had the same teachers, went to the same churches, played on the same playgrounds, went to the same basketball games, what the hell happened to me? Why did my my philosophy take an entirely different path? How does it work?

Lone Ranger of the kitchen.

I am no great cook by any means, but I can prepare a healthy and edible meal. In fact, my wife and I share kitchen duty about equally. That said, what I do not need in the kitchen is any help. No, I don't want you to slice the veggies, I will wash the dishes and clean up the mess, just stay the hell out of my way and no one gets hurt. Maybe it is a "man thing," I don't know.

You Betcha I lost....

I may just paddle my kayak to Russia! Alaskans and Americans just don't deserve me....

Musings: Perhaps crazy wasn't as fun as we thought it would be? Will the trend continue?

That is the question going forward. It would help a great deal if the former CIC (criminal in chief) was dragged, kicking and screaming, through the criminal court system. Maybe now that Murderoch has waved his magic fox, and has told Trump to take a hike, the DOJ will have permission to move forward on the Trump case.

It will be very interesting to witness how long it takes the Murdoch propaganda machine to reconvert the Trump fans it created. It should be fun to watch the masses being reshaped. Fox needs to remind the Trumpians that the Don made the first move to take their guns... (bump stocks) and that the new Trump administration, that has turned its back on real Americans, and has a secret plan to outlaw guns; that should get the ball rolling. They have two years to turn the Trump cult into the DeSantis cult. The clock is ticking.

This old atheist just sent money, out of state, to a preacher in Georgia...

No insult to ActBlue, the Democratic Party, or DU, but donating through the link on the forum, only half of the funding goes to the candidate, the rest to the Party. Not that I figure that the party couldn't uses it, but I thought that Brother Warnock could use every penny of it in the next few weeks...

It ain't much, but it is all I can do. At least now I can feel like I have some skin in the game.

Happy VD to all of you other losers and suckers!

I served reluctantly and under duress but I am proud of it none the less.

Florida is all in...we may as well bring back the Confederate flag....At least it would be honest.

My long-serving congressman was gerrymandered out of his district...The Republicans are so entrenched now, that there is no legal path forward to restore good government.

I am so ashamed of what used to be a Democratic stronghold.

The Republican magic

Is that they began a long game of weaponizing dissatisfaction back in the 90s. Whenever things appeared to be getting better they would provide new issues to stir up passions. When the Democrats did not "come for their guns," they started "killing babies." They have provide scapegoats to hate and a god-like figure to provide salvation. They have spread the word that it is OK to hate, in fact, it is their duty to God and Country to rule by the force of arms.

None of this happened by accident, it has been well planned and well financed for decades. The design, and the end game, leads to the concentration of wealth and power into the hands of fewer and fewer people as time passes. The Republicans and their corporate masters believe that they hold all of the winning cards. They envision a world of masters and the serfs who serve them.

If we are to go out, it needs to be with a bang instead of a whimper.

Decades ago Steppenwolf laid the past, and present and future for us:

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope

Like good Christians some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands, to court the wild
But she just patiently smiled, and bore them a child
To be their spirit, and guiding light
[Verse 2]
And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon they went
And till the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end

While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands, to court the wild
But she just patiently smiled, and bore them a child
To be their spirit, and guiding light

The blue and gray they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
And when the war was over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has its share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But its protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster a

Voted and vetoed. As much of one as the other.

Today was the first day of early in-person. I arrived at an empty polling place; the only folks in sight were poll workers. I asked, nicely, since they were so short of customers if I could go through the line two or three times. They politely declined.

What did Trump's Jan. 6 end game look like to him?

Leading Democrats murdered, vote certification stopped, rioting spreads across the land and Trump declares martial law that he would never rescind? There must have been some plan for the morning after.
