Importance of Voter Turnout: Ohio Issue One For Reproductive Freedom Passes

On paper, it was a blowout win: 56% Yes, 44% No.

There are about 9,500,000 eligible voters in Ohio.

About 37% of the voting-age electorate voted, which is pretty good for Ohio...and still means 63% of the eligible voters didn't vote.

1,930,499 people voted yes. 1,547,408 people voted no. The issue passed by 383,408 votes.

383,408 people is only 4% of eligible voters.

Who knows if or when the other 63% might show up, or how they will vote?

Keep your eye on the ball, Ohio! There is a lot of bat-shit crazy in that 63%.

I think all U.S. congresspeople should have to wear a ballcap displaying the logo of the company or industry of their largest campaign contributor. This should include unofficial dark-money contributors.

They should also have to wear NASCAR-style jumpsuits with logo patches of their top 10 contributors anytime they are acting in an official capacity.

C-SPAN should have a running chyron for each member they show on-screen that displays these top donor's logos.

If someone is beholden to the fossil fuel industry, they should have to wear rubber replicas of one of the Koch brothers' testicles dangling from their chin at all times.

When introduced on the floor to speak, the introduction should be, "The floor belongs to the gentlewoman/gentleman from so-and-so whose time is sponsored by _____."

Maybe, just maybe, if reps were forced to display this information for everyone to see, things would change.

My 10 year old son has been diagnosed with Central Precocious Puberty (early puberty). His bone growth is already at 13 years, so the endocrinologist prescribed a medication called Lupron to slow his growth until his actual age is closer to his bone age. He would get a shot every three months. The cost of the first dose? $5000! Our yearly family deductible $6000. Not to mention the cost of my insurance through work went up about $1000/yr - TO STAY ON THE SAME PLAN.

Oh, but apparently there is a "coupon available" that will help lower the cost. ARE YOU FRACKING KIDDING ME??

And there are dumb M$^%^# Fu%$#@ out there who think the U.S. has the best healthcare system in the world.

My father died on 2/25/2020...

He had lung cancer that was under control thanks to immunotherapy and great doctors at The James, The Ohio State University’s cancer hospital. His doctor mentioned at his last immuno session, in early January, that he had a patient who travelled from China every three weeks for treatment. The doctor was worried about his patient, and the doctor’s own family in China, due to this new virus that was emerging.

Dad got heartburn that wouldn’t go away in late January. Nothing crazy, just annoying and it wouldn’t go away. Then he got nauseous in early February and spiked a fever. We decided to take him to the ER. They admitted him for observation.

His fever was up and down. His BP was up and down. His O2 level was up and down for a week. He threw up and aspirated a week in and they put him on a ventilator. Four days later they tried to take him off. He was congested and didn’t have the energy to cough it up, so back on the ventilator he went. He didn’t get better. Three days later we took him off the ventilator and his meds. He snored away for another two days until he passed.

Two weeks in the hospital with no diagnosis. He was tested for the flu. Negative. He was scanned for infection. Nothing. No bacterial pneumonia. No lasting fever, yet they insisted it had to be an infection somewhere. I asked about this new virus in China. “No, we’ve checked for everything.”

Did they? Did they even have a test available here at that point?

He was 83. He was a great Dad. I miss him. I wonder why he died. I worry for my family.
