Democrats - What am I?

I am 75 years old. I have been a registered Independent for over 50 years. Recently I had a discussion with myself, which went something like this?

Q: What's the last time you voted for a Republican president?
Answer: Uh, I don't remember.

Q. Would you ever vote for a Republican again?
Answer: No, I don't know what I am, but I definitely know what I am not.

Q. Then what are you waiting for? So I went online and registered for the first time in over 50 years as a Democrat.

Now, as to what I am as a Democrat is somewhat confusing to me. Am I am centrist Democrat, a Socialist Democrat, and how do the labels "progressive" and "liberal" get attached? I note a wee bit of tension here sometimes between Bernie supporters and others in the Democrat party. How do I know what I am?

Separate scanning device?

Have any DU'ers purchased a separate scanner? I bought a Canon Image Class multifunction printer about 2-1/2 years ago, using this printer with a Vista OS Laptop. Worked fine until I replaced the laptop a year ago with the dreaded Windows 8 OS. I downloaded the 64-bit driver to use with the new laptop, but have never been able to successfully scan again. Appears to be an incompatibility issue, and there doesn't seem to be any new drivers available on the Canon website to address the problem.

So I'm considering purchasing a small portable scanner that I can plug into the computer via a USB drive, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of accessory.

Where is the "free" version of Malwarebytes?

I have Cccleaner from this list, but have not been able to get the free version of Malwarebytes. No matter what it claims - it's a free trial, not truly free.

Daily Word

Unity publishes a small booklet called Daily Word, I believe it is. My mother (who would be over 100 if she were still with us) read these faithfully many years ago. Mother was originally brought up in the Christian Science faith and perhaps found a small connection there with Unity. I'm not a firm believer in anything (probably because I have an open mind to everything), but Unity has my thumbs up.

Take it From Me

A whole lot better than having bed bugs in your bed for company.

Thank you for your opinion, Rocco

I would love to try a Mac. But, let's face it, they are pricey! How much would one cost, do you think?

Damn Laptops

I hear you. For one who can type 80+ wpm, I can't type for diddly-squat on these new laptops. But I wasn't aware of the tap to click fix. Thanks. I would still have my ancient and honorable laptop for mobility; It just seems that having a larger screen to see what I am looking at (old-age eyes here) would work better for me, along with the regular type keyboard that I have been used to over the years. Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving. Thanks for your reply.

Good advice.

Thanks for taking the time to look these small computers up for me so that I could read about them. I appreciate that, Fumesucker.

Thanks Fumesucker

Thank you for your good advice. After your reply, I checked, and Apple has a very compact computer (about $600). I have never used an Apple before. Do you know of any PC manufacturers that have a computer that compact? As you said, the monitor and keyboard are relatively inexpensive.

All in One Desktops

I have an older laptop but was thinking along the lines of an all-in-one for my next purchase. Love the idea of a good sized monitor and a separate keyboard. I seem to have trouble keyboarding on these newer laptop keyboards. Has anyone made a purchase of an all-in-one? A middle of the road all-in-one runs about $1,000.
