JURY RESULTS
A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Wed Sep 18, 2013, 09:02 PM, and voted 1-5 to LEAVE IT ALONE.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: Local interest story/shock-spam. Not worth of GD, IMHO.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Free speech forum, right?
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Fucked up? Yeah. Is it the OP's fault? Nope. Just copying some stuff from the story.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Nasty bit of news, but nothing in violation of TOS here. And I say this as a lover of all animals. These people are sick, but the poster hasn't crossed any lines.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: This is a post of a news story from the Huffington Post. I'm sure if HP readers can handle it, so can DU.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Disgusting but not a violation
Thank you.
It's the Hypocrisy, Stupid
It's not guns gender God GMOs NSA UFOs WMD Dems Miley Syria Miss America Obamacare immigration ...
It's the corporatocracy, stupid.
There's no mystery what Occupy was all about. What the message was. The real question is how we allow our energies and attention to be scattered like an anthill under a BB gun. Connect the dots and do something about it.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson observed, "All our things are right and wrong together. The wave of evil washes all our institutions alike."
"Polls show that on the important issues of our day - from senseless wars, to Wall Street bailouts, to corporate tax-dodging, to health insurance rip-offs - the majority of Americans are not ignorant to the reality that they are being screwed. And American history is replete with organizational examples - from the Underground Railroad, to the Great Populist Revolt, to the Flint sit-down strike, to large wildcat strikes a generation ago - of successful rebels who had little money but lots of guts and solidarity.
"The elite spend their lives stockpiling money and have the financial clout to bribe, divide and conquer the rest of us. The only way to overcome the power of money is with the power of courage and solidarity. When we regain our guts and solidarity, we can then more wisely select from - and implement - time-honored strategies and tactics that oppressed peoples have long used to defeat the elite. So, how do we regain our guts and solidarity?
1. Create the Cultural and Psychological "Building Blocks" for Democratic Movements
2. Confront and Transform ALL Institutions that Have Destroyed Individual Self-Respect and Collective Self-Confidence
3. Side Each Day in Every Way With Anti-Authoritarians
4. Regain Morale by Thinking More Critically About Our Critical Thinking
5. Restore Courage in Young People
6. Focus on Democracy Battlefields Where the Corporate Elite Don't Have Such a Large Financial Advantage
7. Heal from "Corporatocracy Abuse" and "Battered People's Syndrome" to Gain Strength
8. Unite Populists by Rejecting Corporate Media's Political Divisions
9. Unite "Comfortable Anti-Authoritarians" and "Afflicted Anti-Authoritarians
10. Do Not Let Debate Divide Anti-Authoritarians
"To summarize, democracy will not be won without guts and solidarity. Risk-free green actions - such as shopping from independents, buying local, recycling, composting, consuming less, not watching television and so on - can certainly help counter a dehumanizing world. However, revolutions that truly transform fundamental power inequities and enable us to feel like men and women rather than children and slaves require risk, guts and solidarity."

But, no matter who the nominee is, Sanders and Warren argue this week in a Huffington Post column that the next Fed chair will have an opportunity to get our economy back on track and to help rebuild Americas middle class. But that will require the right temperament and a willingness to take on Wall Street CEOs when necessary. It is critical that the next Fed chair make a genuine, long-term commitment to supporting those who dont have armies of lobbyists and lawyers to advance their interests in Washington working and middle-class families.

SuperReagan (Colbert Report)
What have we learned since 9/11?
As individuals. Collectively. About our nation. Ourselves. Each other.
About what we can control and what we can't.
About what we do about it.
How everything's changed.
Celebrating an American public and Congress that chose not to be bamboozled, hornswaggled, p-owned,
Faux-noozed, buffaloed, snookered, Colinpowelled, punked, hoodwinked or humbugged.
The system worked. The people spoke. The President worked it. Congress worked it.
Something to celebrate on "Patriot Day."
This is not "Obama's war"
Blaming Obama for the push to military action in Syria seems shortsighted. He gets to be the figurehead, so he takes the blame.
Does anyone really think he is completely in charge of any of this? We know how compromised and controlled our government is.
Is it possible to discuss this mess with out pointing the finger at one man, even if he is the President?
Concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war, but on the positive affirmation of peace
We will not build a peaceful world by following a negative path. It is not enough to say "We must not wage war." It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it. We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war, but on the positive affirmation of peace ...
So we must fix our vision not merely on the negative expulsion of war, but upon the positive affirmation of peace. We must see that peace represents a sweeter music, a cosmic melody that is far superior to the discords of war. Somehow we must transform the dynamics of the world power struggle from the negative nuclear arms race which no one can win to a positive contest to harness man's creative genius for the purpose of making peace and prosperity a reality for all of the nations of the world. In short, we must shift the arms race into a "peace race". If we have the will and determination to mount such a peace offensive, we will unlock hitherto tightly sealed doors of hope and transform our imminent cosmic elegy into a psalm of creative fulfillment.
All that I have said boils down to the point of affirming that mankind's survival is dependent upon man's ability to solve the problems of racial injustice, poverty, and war; the solution of these problems is in turn dependent upon man squaring his moral progress with his scientific progress, and learning the practical art of living in harmony.
