SoutherDem's JournalWho is really at fault?
Correct me if I am wrong, but when you put out bids for a job you state what you need and when it is needed by. Correct?
So when the company won the contract to create the ACA website, they knew what they were bidding on and when it needed to go live right?
So how is it any ones fault but the company's that it went live and it didn't work?
Debt Ceiling Question
I have heard it both ways, we can selectively pay bills and we can't, it is all or nothing. So, which is it?
Barack Obama the "last" President of the United States
Ok, I know I heard this on a conspiracy theory radio show and I always get grief if I refer to Coast to Coast AM but I did hear someone make this prediction and parts of it seems to be coming true.
Anyway, someone said they "saw" a major financial crisis occurring which would start a spiral of downfalls in the US and ultimately lead to the end of US. Thus, President Obama would be our last President.
When I heard this I laughed and took it as a crazy person talking but it seems the tea party and their fellow Republican followers would be willing to do such damage to the government and our economy they wouldn't care if they did destroy the United States.
Do I think this person saw anything? NO! But, it is ironic things are working the way they are.
I got a letter from my Representative today
I contacted my Representative to urge him to allow a clean CR to open the government and raise the debt ceiling. As you will be able to tell I live in a Republican District.
He thanked me for contacting him and expressing my views, stated that the House had approved legislation which would end the shutdown and that the House had addressed this in the past through good faith negotiations and hoped the Senate and President would engage with the House to bring a satisfactory conclusion. He then stated that the debt was too big to ignore and if we would address this it would bring immediate economic benefits.
Basically Republican BS. I am not a bit surprised by his reply, it is similar to the letter I get each time I contact his office. The bad thing is my Representative is not a teabagger, I can only imagine the replies from one of those Representatives.
By the way he didn't bring up Obamacare at all.
Just wondering is this the type form letter other Democrats who write Republican Representatives get in reply?
Our Government is broken, what to do?
Ok, I am not a constitutional lawyer so maybe I am wrong. But, I did get an "A" in high school Civics and college Political Science and our government seems broken to me.
In general I understood we work from a majority rules system and from the philosophy the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. True, occasionally there may rise a situation where the SCOTUS may say even if the majority want something the rights of the minority will over rule but overall majority rules.
It seems over the last 3 or 4 decades the "rules" in the two division of the legislature have brought the law making process to a near complete halt. As it is now 20 - 25% of the 54% of the house has closed the government and threatening to not raise the debt limit because the Speaker of the House (tea party) won't allow a vote.
Also, the way the districts are drawn many have given outcomes in the general elections, the representatives are more worried about the primary so they must support the extreme. As I understand from what I heard on NPR, even though in total more Americans voted for Democrats we have a house with a Republican majority.
Lastly, we have one party which doesn't understand what it mean when you loose an election. If they don't win the White House they spend the next 4 or 8 years attempting to get that president out or stop everything they do. Compromise means you do what they want even if they don't represent the majority of Americans.
I call this a broken government.
What do we do?
Does anyone know how to know the running totals
for those who have signed up for the ACA?
So the answer is privatize everything?
On Diane Rehm there is a jackass from the Cato Institute whose answer for all our problems is privatize everything.
I know I am a slow dumb southerner, but with privatization comes profits. If you privatize a department make a profit and save money just what are we cutting?
I think of education in for profit schools, profits come first the students come second. If we privatize government profits come first and the American citizens come second. Pure and simple.
Please help jar my memory
Has there ever been a piece of legislation voted in by an elected congress signed by an elected President challenged in the courts and upheld by the SCOTUS yet over and over challenged by the losing party. The same legislation being the major achievement of the President who is reelected and yet the losing party still challenges the legislation and then because the minority can't get it's way shuts down the government?
Is this democracy? Is this the way America should work?
Maybe we need to play hard ball. Shut down what Republicans love. Close the NSA, bring EVERY American service member home, close the airports in other words hurt the Republicans not just Americans.
A question for Republicans
IF the ACA is SO bad??? Why not pass a clean budget? Let it go into full effect, you have proven you don't like it, so now you can say you were forced, then stand back and watch it fail. When it does be there to clean up the pieces and have the House, Senate and POTUS for decades to come.
Is it because you know it WON'T fail?
Is it because you know it will be good for America?
It it because you know it will be the death nail for your party?
The Republican party is acting like a suicide bomber willing to die to get their way.
At this point I fear it is The USA or the Republicans. And I honestly don't know who will win.
I think I need a program
So was the sequester Obama's or not?
Republicans can't seem to decide if the sequester is their idea or Obama's. Days before when we didn't know the effects Obama's, when the world didn't crash Republican's. Slowing recovery Obama's. Now I just heard some Republican Senator once again take credit for it.
Edit:
They can't even decide on the amount. I have heard as little as 2% and as much as 15%. Spin, Spin, Spin.
