Maybe the impoverishment is about separating the poor

and the lower middle class, both struggling, from smartphones and the internet. Why else would they try and slow broadband, disallow price controls of it and reduce expendable income? Why are prices increasing every year while minimum wages stay the same? Is this so voters can't get to independent media as traditional media is captured by the right more and more?

It is a GOP wedge so they like to keep it as a live wire.

They keep sending juice to trans issue.

I hate these memes that have a duel message

depending who you are. It is an attack for those of us who believe in equality and owns the libs that while it would reinforce those aleady vulnerable to believe in a misogynistic world.

There are tons of memes on Facebook in Canada that start out with a negative phrase and then say something positive about Mark Carney. Things like "no matter what you think of him, Carney is a strong leader". It is along the lines of "I don't care what everybody says about you, you are a good pal". Those messages about Carney are everywhere on Facebook forcing one to agree to the first thing is they want to heart or thumbs up the second. It is like a manufactured fault line.

I thought Facebook said Facebook in Canada was to be apolitical since they didn't want to have to pay for news content?

Making an ad of all the GOP tying themselves into pretzels

trying not to answer that question (did Biden win the 2020 election) would be good. Back to back to back.

Toon: the public always losses on tariffs

William "Chip" Nagel (@cto1usn.bsky.social) 2026-05-02T15:52:48.512Z

Applegrove: Tariffs end up being a transfer of wealth from consumers to government to Corporations. Why does everything Trump does always end up as a transfer of wealth to the 1% from the people? Why is increasingly inequality their main goal?

Yes we consume a lot of American news. But our

policies on healthcare and college funding and minimum wages are way different. Why Trump didn't make any inroads with his talk of annexing us... who would give up good public schools and good healthcare? We see you struggling under Republicans when they rule and how you don't get to have 'nice things'. You are showing the world what the danger of illiberal rule is and, at the same time, showing us in the rest of the world how to fight back. I have been so impressed with DUers over the years and don't know why the MAGA base is so unimformed relative to you guys. How does that happen in the same country? But the world is wise to the fascists thanks to your suffering and how you share it, your intellects and knowledge of the world shine through but most of what I see on the DU every day is the compassion you have for people. I bet a Brexit would not happen again the way it did.... and even the far right parties in Europe are separating themselves from Trump. I'm just so sorry you are going through what you are going through and had to spend last year cutting and cutting your loses. Better times ahead this year I think. (((HUGS)))

I wonder if Lindsay Graham's request for $400 milliion

from Congress for that ballroom last week was so Trump could keep the private money: his bitcoin business and truthsocial are not doing well and probably have his net worth going way down.

Republicans Fear a Big Mistake on Reconciliation

Republicans Fear a Big Mistake on Reconciliation

“Senate Republicans are taking their first steps this week to pass a narrow reconciliation bill that includes money for agencies in charge of immigration enforcement at the center of a funding dispute with Democrats,” NOTUS reports.

“A number of Republican senators, however, believe the strategy could be a mistake if leadership doesn’t broaden the bill’s scope to address voter concerns about the economy and affordability, reflecting widespread anxiety in the party about its odds of retaining control of Congress after the November midterm elections.”

Applegrove: the whole GOP agenda is to make sure the middle and working classes don't have any money to fight for middle class things like childcare or Medicare for all. Or Obamacare and Medicaid. To keep democrats from winning and actually making the oligarchs pay some taxes or regulate the environment in a way that saves lives. Don't look for them to do anything about affordability any time soon.

And I wondered too if the pee scandal, Trump was

accused of in a Moscow hotel as a reason for why Trump was so compliant to Putin, was a false rumour Putin send out to Europe to explain away Trump behaviour. That is much less damaging than Trump being the Manchurian Candidate he has been for Putin... sent out to destroy democracy around the world.
