Retreats offer men a safe space to open up amid loneliness epidemic

At "Evryman," a weekend getaway in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, around 50 men gather to open up about struggles that men often bury — like loneliness.

"As men, we've traditionally been put in a box and given a very small range to express our emotions. There are a lot of men walking around, not necessarily overtly a loner, but feeling very lonely," Krump said.

Roughly 1 in 7 men say they have no close friends, according to data from the Survey Center on American Life.

"What men are really looking for is to belong. They want to be part of something," Krump said.

I think this "loneliness epidemic" is affecting the politics of this country--pushing us in the wrong direction. Is it possible (or even worth it) for Democrats to step into this space and make a difference? Or has maga already won these guys over?

Kamala sent me a christmas card

Some of you may have received it too. The return address says "The Vice President's Residence" Washington DC. I expected to maybe see a request for donations to various groups, but no, it was just a happy holiday / season's greeting card with the seal of the Vice President. After everything that has happened, I think it was a very thoughtful gesture. I almost teared up thinking about what could have been...

Adam Schiff Doesn't Want Preemptive Biden Pardon

Politico reported Wednesday evening, citing unnamed "senior Democrats," that some White House officials are mulling whether Biden should issue pardons for Trump critics before he leaves office in January, amid concerns about whether Trump could seek revenge on those he believes unjustly targeted him.

Schiff, as well as former Representative Liz Cheney and former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci, are among the names considered for possible pardons, according to the report.

Schiff, a California Democrat who won the state's Senate race last month, told Politico he is not supportive of the idea.

"I would urge the president not to do that. I think it would seem defensive and unnecessary," Schiff said.

First of all, who is leaking this stuff to the media? And why???!

Second, just issue a blanket POCKET pardon and be done with it. It's not rocket science. Schiff will thank him later because he WILL be targeted. Guaranteed.

I think y'all are all overthinking it. The only thing unique about that attack was that the killer limited

the carnage to the person he was targeting (unlike other terrorists who kill everyone in the vicinity).

I don't think he personally knows anyone killed by UHC. He's just a homegrown domestic terrorist / serial killer, for lack of a better word, and his target appears to be heartless CEOs. He probably did not expect to still be alive right now, but now that he's escaped, he might move on to the next person on his list.

There are a lot of other wild theories I can think of, but I think the simplest explanation is usually the right one.

Should Biden "blanket pardon" everyone who trump is threatening to lock up?

What can be done to protect everyone who trump is threatening to lock up (Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, Liz Cheney, etc)?

are we just going to let msnbc die?

I have trump anxiety and I haven't been able to watch any of my favorite msnbc shows for longer than 10 minutes a pop, but I'm worried that our favorite shows will end up canceled... or worse... and then what will we have at that point?

Is it time for those of us who can stomach the news to resume watching so we can at least have a presence in the political talk show space?

Or is the plan to rely on youtube influencers going forward?

Simple question: Are we in danger, come January 20, 2025?

Do you believe that we will be placed in harm's way when trump takes over next year?

My answer: Yes, I think we are in danger. I don't have to rehash all the reasons why. The fact is, the danger that he poses has been evident for years, but it was made crystal clear on January 6, 2021. Yet the speed at which the FBI/DOJ moved was not in sync with the danger that we were in. It wasn't taken seriously.

Would any other terrorist leader be allowed to roam around freely for 3+ years and then run for office and win? No. Of course not.

Our nation's agencies are supposed to protect us. Why didn't that happen?

This is not justice at all. We were let down, big time. Millions of people don't see it yet, but they will, assuming they don't die first.

Clarification: By "we," I'm not referring to DU, I'm referring to the American people. All of us who live in this country.

Madam President: The most memorable fictional female US Presidents in film & TV

The US elections are less than a week away, and we don't know about you, but we're trying to preserve our sanity and keep our stress levels low by rewatching Veep - the fantastic HBO political comedy created by Scottish satirist Armando Iannucci.

The show, based on fictional vice-president Selina Meyer who ends up becoming POTUS, earned Louis-Dreyfus six Emmy Awards in the titular role. It ended in 2019 but viewership of the comedy has gone through the roof since Harris’s run was announced.
