Truth Social keeps shrinking despite the Trump trial and looming election

Former President Donald Trump hit the jackpot this spring when his social media company finally went public.

Even though Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) generates very little revenue, investors are assigning an eye-popping valuation north of $9 billion to the company. Trump’s dominant stake in Trump Media is now valued at nearly $6 billion.

Yet new data shows its main product — the conservative-friendly social network Truth Social — remains a very tiny player in its industry, and it’s getting even smaller.

Truth Social’s average number of daily active US users on iOS and Android dropped by 19% year over year in April to about 113,000, according to data shared exclusively with CNN from Similarweb, a data intelligence company.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Georgia business owner who bragged that he “fed” a police officer to a mob of rioters storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was sentenced on Thursday to nearly five years in prison for his repeated attacks on law enforcement during the insurrection.

Jack Wade Whitton struck an officer with a metal crutch and dragged him — head first and face down — into the crowd on the Capitol's Lower West Terrace. Whitton later boasted in a text message that he “fed him to the people.”

Roughly 20 minutes later, Whitton tried to pull a second officer into the crowd, prosecutors say. He also kicked at, threatened and threw a construction pylon at officers trying to hold off the mob of then-President Donald Trump's supporters.

“You’re gonna die tonight!” he shouted at police after striking an officer's riot shield.

A man who became a fugitive after a federal jury convicted him of assaulting police officers during the U.S. Capitol riot was sentenced on Tuesday to six years in prison.

David Joseph Gietzen, 31, of Sanford, North Carolina, struck a police officer with a pole during a mob's Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

Gietzen told U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols that he didn't intend to hurt anybody that day. But he didn't express any regret or remorse for his actions on Jan. 6, when he joined a mob of Donald Trump supporters in interrupting the joint session of Congress for certifying President Joe Biden's 2020 electoral victory.

“I have to make it explicitly known that I believe I did the right thing,” he said before learning his sentence.

April 3 (UPI) -- U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth sentenced Taylor James Johnatakis to 87 months in prison for his part in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Wednesday. Johnatakis, 40, of Kingston, Wash., was also ordered to pay $2,000 restitution.

A federal jury in Washington D.C. on Nov. 21 found Johnatakis guilty of obstructing an official proceeding, civil disorder and assaulting, resisting and impeding certain officers, which are felonies.

Johnatakis represented himself during the trial and at Wednesday's sentencing hearing while proclaiming he is a "sovereign citizen" who isn't subject to federal laws, NBC News reported.

Lamberth noted Johnatakis showed no remorse for his actions and expressed concern that he might employ violence again if given the opportunity.

Federal prosecutors said Johnatakis led other rioters in attacking a line of police officers who were protecting the Capitol.
