Source: Austin American-Statesman
The Texas Supreme Court on Friday ruled against an El Paso woman who sued her doctor for failing to perform a sterilization procedure she paid for, finding that she is not entitled to damages for emotional distress, physical pain or the costs of raising the child that resulted from her unintended pregnancy.
"Texas law does not regard a healthy child as an injury for which a parent must be compensated but, rather, as a life with inherent dignity and profound, immeasurable value," Justice Rebeca Huddle, one of nine Republican justices on the state's highest court, wrote in the opinion.
The 21-page opinion reverses a state appellate court's finding that a wrongful pregnancy would entitle Grissel Velasco, a mother of four, to damages for emotional anguish. The Supreme Court ruling aligns with previous appellate court decisions that find parents are not entitled to compensation for the cost of raising a child born from an unplanned pregnancy, the opinion notes.

Word of the Day, AKA a "Tucker"
/pälˈtro͞on/ - poltroon
wondering what other unusually apt words describe him?
Cornel West is one broke motherfucker.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/zacheverson/2023/12/01/checks--imbalances-why-cornel-west-is-broke/?sh=405cca734410Cornel West has been a fixture of American society for more than three decades, publishing books, teaching at Ivy League institutions, commenting on cable news, collaborating on music with Princeeven popping up in sequels to the Matrix. Ubiquity provided liquidity, with West earning an estimated $15 million or so over the last 30 years. But oddly, as he mounts an independent run for president, his net worth resembles that of a first-year adjunct professor. I live paycheck to paycheck, says West.
West lived in a Four Seasons condo in Boston, which he later admitted he could not afford, and rode around in a Mercedes or Cadillac. One of his four ex-wives accused West of maintaining a covert apartment in Boston for $5,000 a month to use as a love den. She also alleged that, despite not having any health conditions, he later took a medical leave from his job at Harvard to live a secret life with another woman in New Mexico.
TO FORBES: NOW INVESTIGATE JILL STEIN
If the IDF knew, Netanyahu knew too.
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/30/world/middleeast/israel-hamas-attack-intelligence.html"Israeli officials obtained Hamass battle plan for the Oct. 7 terrorist attack more than a year before it happened, documents, emails and interviews show. But Israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as aspirational, considering it too difficult for Hamas to carry out.
The approximately 40-page document, which the Israeli authorities code-named Jericho Wall, outlined, point by point, exactly the kind of devastating invasion that led to the deaths of about 1,200 people.
The translated document, which was reviewed by The New York Times, did not set a date for the attack, but described a methodical assault designed to overwhelm the fortifications around the Gaza Strip, take over Israeli cities and storm key military bases, including a division headquarters.
Hamas followed the blueprint with shocking precision. The document called for a barrage of rockets at the outset of the attack, drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border, and gunmen to pour into Israel en masse in paragliders, on motorcycles and on foot all of which happened on Oct. 7"
"too difficult for Hamas to carry out" my ass. cool story bros.
Why does Fulton county even allow smiling for the mug shots?
You aren't allowed to smile for passports. If you smile during a passport photo, they'll tell you to stop it.
Getting booked is a serious business.
Some republican twits are saying that Trump couldn't have been in the "Beast"
and lunged at Engle. It appears he may have been in one of the
newer modified Suburban SUV's that the Secret Service got in 2020.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/37611/the-secret-service-has-a-new-chevy-suburban-presidential-limousine
While any one of the various armored modified vehicles the president rides in are often referred to as the "Beast,"
technically, the term applies to the limo version. Obviously, the layout of the SUV and the limo are different.
Whatever the case, be prepared to fend off this grasping at straws disinformation.
Tucker's "End of Man" video and the "God Squad."
Has anyone made the connection between Kelvin Gemstone's "God Squad"
and Tucker's new video? Seems kinda obvious to me.
My response to Morning Edition 1-11-21
I was listening to the Morning Edition interview with two members of the so-called Problem Solvers Caucus - the two interviewees being U.S. Reps Dean Phillips and Dusty Johnson. I turned it off immediately, when in response to Rachel Martin's question about whether the president needed to be removed from office, Dusty Johnson opined that the "president does have some culpability..." for recent violence at the capitol. Culpability!? I'm fatigued and frustrated listening to mealy mouthed apologists for Trump. The man is clearly a menace, as are craven republican representatives who are being deliberately obtuse regarding Trump's seditious incitement to insurrection. Moreover, the preposterous Problem Solvers Caucus is simply a fig leaf under the banner of "bipartisanship" - simply a fantasy given nearly universal republican resistance to any policy that doesn't benefit the 1/10 of 1%. The violence at the capitol was no less than a coup against the government in an attempt overturn a fairly decided election. Don't be fooled by the bumpkins. They're merely muddle-headed foot soldiers for an already radicalized movement within the republican party. You know it and I know it. Please do not insult your listenership by giving air time to disingenuous political hacks that are trying to normalize this disgusting and treasonous behavior. NPR management needs to grow a pair.
