I know. This is a problem I cannot get away from.

Make no mistake - I totally support Israel's right to exist. I totally support Israel's right to exist - there, where it is. But borders may have been inflated and need to revert back to near what they were at some designated past date that's negotiated carefully and thoughtfully, I'd hope. There'd have to be things taken into consideration like - would some version of that be something acceptable to most Palestinians while not making Israel feel threatened or vulnerable?

Let me also say I don't follow this issue as closely as do others, and certainly some here. So I don't understand all the fine points.

But what I do, at least, think I understand is what seems to me an extremely boiled-down version of things. Something as simple as - we all have to share some of the same fill-in-the-blank-here. Could be a toy, could be the last piece of pie, could be a certain part of the street or neighborhood, could be a whole country forcryingoutloud. There's not enough so that everybody can have the whole thing. You guys simply have to share. Whether you like it or not. That's just what IS. NOT what you want it to be for your own purposes or concerns or sense of injustice or fears or agendas. It just reminds me of countless bickering sessions I've seen among the many different kinds of five-year-olds who've passed through my life.

And I get it - that you have to think three-to-85 steps ahead and strategize and consider the trendings and psychology and changing tastes of masses of people who'll be impacted, and how they might react. And you have to play Stratagema and Risk and poker and chess at several different levels, and try to observe, analyze, and anticipate as much as possible. And in this issue you're NOT just talking Israel and the Palestinians. You're talking everybody in the neighborhood. You're talking Syria and Iran and Iraq and Egypt and the Sinai and Jordan and Lebanon and Turkey and the Saudis and Yemen and the whole rest of it, and how they interplay and who their friends are. It's a many-headed mess.

But at the same time, WE need that money, too.

That's a VERY good and compelling question, AngryDem001

I find myself bothered by that all the time these days. Particularly considering two issues:
1) they are, or are believed to be, obscenely well equipped to defend themselves (mostly with our help) and hugely disproportionally to the areas around them.
2) and lately it seems as though they disproportionately meddle in our politics with disproportionately heavy lobbying influence and clout - and their prime minister has shown us nothing but demands and disrespect. To our president especially. He and that scheming sneaky-ass ambassador of his went around the Backs of our President and our State Department, and connived with the opposition party.
Wondering if we should start questioning how much lavish amounts of OUR money we hand them repeatedly. Maybe we should start cutting back? OR letting them know we're starting to consider that.
Seems to me we need to address and respond to their bad behavior a little better. That bibi should get a clear and strong message that this is NOT the way you treat someone who's been a pretty doggone loyal friend.
Maybe it's time we reconsider such lavish giving? Or at least pull back on it a little? Just asking.

Totally!

And it just kinda says something - when you do it with a rubber chicken. MUCH better optics, and rawther metaphoric.

Yes. There IS a growing drumbeat about limbaugh's professional demise.

There have been conflicting reports this week that rush limbaugh is being dropped from the big important Chicago AM talker WLS. But the very fact that there are reports of any sort that are now making the rounds means there's clearly something to it. It wouldn't suddenly become the industry talk-of-the-town, as it were, unless something was up.

Indeed, here's another one, which I just found in the excellent LARadio.com! (Wonderful site for SoCal people who follow the local radio scene here. Highly recommended!) And then I went to the link, myself. Its top story:

Rush Limbaugh’s Fall Into Oblivion
http://darrylparks.com/author/darrylparksmedia/

The second story on the home page, after the one above, is this - with its hilarious title:
Talk Radio – Becoming the Weekend Laxative for Octogenarians

!!!!!

Enjoy!

My mistake! I thought it was a feather duster they were bringing to the gunfight

for too many years. I stand corrected! Looks like it was actually a rubber chicken.

Well Gee Whiz - they're finally waking up about this.

Well whaddya know.

There's also "Advantage 2020" which is being headed by Mark Schauer, that's focusing on this.

I've decided that if I'm going to donate ANYWHERE, to anything, or to anybody in the months ahead, it's gonna be to THIS. Probably ONLY this.

Oh man! You sure this isn't in the Lounge?

This is HILARIOUS!

LOVE the "Spocking" but nothing beats the "5-Dollar Bill Murray"!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!

Welcome to DU, Geronimoe!

Glad you're here! Point taken. However, I find myself leaning toward the "this is pretty smart strategy by the Dems" camp. In a political world like this one, sometimes one has to hold one's nose to vote for something - explicitly for the sake of keeping the worse of the two OUT of power. And I have yet to see the perfect candidate. Even on our side. Sometimes you have to maneuver and play games. That's something our side traditionally hasn't been that good at doing lately. But they seem to be learning. And it's making the GOP look like somebody the baboons out of the zoo and they're running amok all over town now. At this point, I'll take ANYTHING that manages to paint them into a corner or otherwise hobble their agenda - and especially - ANYTHING that makes them look glaringly idiotic and incompetent to the maximum number of potential voters.

We heard a boatload during the reagan era about the so-called "11th Commandment" - which is "thou shalt not speak ill of another republi-CON." Perhaps it's time the Dems adopted an 11th Commandment of their own: "Thou Shalt Do NOTHING that Helps the Opposition Look Good."

Besides, it toys wickedly with this supposedly sacrosanct "hastert rule" that the GOP seems to cling to - that you-the-GOP-leader can only advance bills in the House if you have a majority of GOP votes behind you. And the "hastert rule" isn't really a cast-in-bronze rule or law or any such thing. It's merely a vanity statement. But the extremists want that, and every time their guy has to violate it to get anything done, it further traumatizes and confounds the whole camp, and anything that throws them into disarray and hissy fits is a good thing for the rest of us. It helps our side prove to America that the other side is spectacularly unfit to govern. And frequent reminders of this do help.

Indeed. I noticed that the clown car "patriots" are all beating that meme - "Failed Policies."

Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhh... let's dig down into that and see...

Hmmm... let's see how much of the bush/cheney mess has finally been cleared up? Let's see... the unemployment numbers keep dropping. What? We're down into the FIVE-PERCENT levels? Wages are rising - slowly, but the trend is now going up, not down. Even at fucking Walmart. Consumer confidence is back up. The deficit is cut by two thirds. He got us out of the TRILLION-DOLLAR level of debt. In six years. With all kinds of dead weight attached, and hurdles and piles of dogshit and other obstacles pushed into his way, and blocking and obstructing everything in sight.

Yep, sure sounds like a whole boatload of "failed policies" to me...

March 6, 2015

MAN are they tone-deaf on the GOP side.

How many times have we seen this by now, just these two months or so that these idiots and nincompoops have been in charge? How many different ways were they just sure they were about to have either the President or the Democrats at the end of a fork, only to wind up there, themselves?

And THESE are the dingdongs to whom the voters saw fit to hand the reins of power on Capitol Hill. They make the "gang who couldn't shoot straight" look like Olympic shooting champions.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph...

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years.
