friends with ptsd- how's it going? does anything help?

so, 5 years ago, our house was broken into. it wasn't that horrible of a deal to me. the guy was caught, all property returned, no violence involved. but my daughter, then 15, and struggling with plenty of problems, imploded.
she has been dx'd with ptsd. she has become highly paranoid and anxious. (redundant)

just wondering if there are folks here who can share things that worked for them, or didnt work. or tell me what is the stupidest thing i can say to her, so i wont.
any meds that helped?

she is in therapy, and has been for quite a while. has a lot of physical/pain issues to boot.
she even qualified for a psyche disability. she is just so sweet and talented. she had such a bright future. but she just got whomped by life.

who doesn't love fungi?

caveat emptor- this kickstarter somewhat directly benefits me, but i benefit it much more, i think, so...

i am very excited about this. mushrooms are an awesome perennial source of protein. they are also an awesome source of income for small farms.
i am so excited that once again the hive mind has delivered what i needed next. i have built a large scale hugel pile, and i know that i need fungi power to turn it into delicious, rich soil. i do have a couple of nice wild blooms so far, and i have a couple dozen nice inoculated logs.
but kevin gives us an order of magnitude more fungi, and fungi knowledge. he is already spreading fungi wherever he can. and collecting fungi anywhere he can. i am really proud to support his plan to cultivate local fungi as well as spreading reliable cultivars to home gardeners, community gardens and urban farms here in the greenest big city in america.

ftr, i have never run a fundraiser for my farm. and this is not really for my farm. just a stopover. but chip in for a good meal while these delights pass though.
the next frontier in local food.

if you like my farm, you can watch as we build our barn, and further permaculture in the big city.

at least illinois is gonna tax millionaires.

* From a press release

House Speaker Michael J. Madigan on Thursday laid out a plan to increase funding for schools across the state by $1 billion a year with dollars generated by imposing a tax surcharge on millionaires.

“Over the last several years, every area of Illinois has experienced school closures, teacher layoffs and classroom cuts due to reduced education funding that has been forced by a crowding out of state revenues,” Madigan said. “This is not a complete solution to our education funding issues, but it is a fair and equitable way to reverse a decline brought on by the national economic problems and will help address a number of spending pressures that vary among school districts.”

Under Madigan’s proposal, individual income up to $1 million would continue to be taxed at the current personal rate. Any income over $1 million would be charged an additional 3 percent. The additional funding raised for Illinois schools would be distributed on a per pupil basis to every school district. Funding would be based on 2014 income tax liability and distributed to schools in 2015.

“This plan brings long overdue fairness to the state tax structure and provides a needed boost to education funding to help give our children more of the resources they need to succeed,” Madigan said. “Some districts may see a need to use these resources for capital construction, while others will want to offer local property tax relief. Illinois is not a one-size-fits-all state and this increase on millionaires recognizes the need for school districts to set their own priorities when spending state dollars.”

In recent days, the Speaker has briefed legislators on the proposed amendment. He hopes to present his amendment before a committee in the coming days and gain full House and Senate approval in time to place the question on the November general election ballot. Constitutional amendment questions must pass by May 5 in order to be placed on the fall ballot.

Even with the increase, the state tax rate on millionaires would not be out of line with tax rates in surrounding states

ok, i am not a beggar. but i think this is something that anyone can support.

a really great kickstarter that deserves your $5. or more.

it's local, but it's not local. i share what i do to the best of my abilities. and i think that this model can work wherever you are.
hell, if you are a du'er, i would promise you a visit to culture your local fungi, or a culture kit of your choice.
again the gods of random probability in the age of the internet have given me an answer to a question that i had barely formed.
i have some inoculated logs, and i have some edible/probably edible residents. i hope we can help him do classes.

chump change, really……

hey guys. how is every one?

considering the slime that has been slithering around these days i am sort of hesitant to post my business here, but…

so, after 32 years and 4+1 kids, many ups and downs, and breakdowns, my marriage is over.
i have really been doing well, which, of course tips co-dependant bs. very happy with meds, and with treatment of some chronic health/pain problems, i am feeling pretty strong. so, i can't do the crazy go round with him any more.
i am quite convinced that he is borderline. he recently admitted to me that he knew there was something wrong with his brain. that there was a switch, where black became white, and he could not stop it.
his brother and i have tried to figure out if he was depressed. it seems that way when he is in the black faze. everyone is evil. out to get him. he engages in incredibly petty sniping in the middle of armageddon.
we went to hawaii in january, and had 10 days of bliss. we got home and he had a rough landing in reality. he went off, and just turned on my in a most viscous and stupid way.
also, he is a vp in a big financial institution. need to say more?
this has gone on and on. i can't do it any more.
i am done.
i am taking care of myself,
i am a free woman.

and the judge will gleefully give me that which he would begrudge me till the day he dies.
of course, he will not leave the house. but it is a big house.
there is plenty of money. i will be fine.

just had to spit it out.

this is a really special place.
