Georgia investigation into Trump's efforts to overturn 2020 election ramps up

This will be fun to watch

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is stepping up the pace of her investigation into Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, questioning a wide array of witnesses and preparing a rash of subpoenas to top Georgia state officials, state lawmakers and a prominent local journalist for testimony that will start next week.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who won a surprise victory against a Trump-backed opponent in Tuesday’s Republican primary, is slated to be one of Willis’s lead witnesses when he appears before the grand jury next Wednesday, sources confirmed to Yahoo News.

“Based on her pugnacity, it looks like it’s full steam ahead,” said one lawyer representing a client who has been contacted by Willis’s team of investigators and prosecutors. “She’s much more aggressive and determined than I expected.”

Willis’s investigation appears to now represent the biggest single legal threat to Trump, given that there have been no clear signs that prosecutors at the U.S. Department of Justice or the New York district attorney’s office are actively preparing to bring criminal charges against the former president. She has assembled a team of about 10 prosecutors and agents for the Trump probe. Earlier this month a group of them flew to Washington to meet with investigators from the Jan. 6 committee, who shared details from confidential witness testimony and other material relevant to Trump’s efforts to flip Georgia’s 16 electoral votes, said a source familiar with the probe.

Gov. Greg Abbott is canceling his appearance at the National Rifle Association convention in Houston on Friday, days after a gunman killed 21 people, including 19 children, at a Uvalde elementary school.

The governor faced heavy criticism for his decision to attend the event following the massacre. He was scheduled to speak alongside former President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, but he will now deliver “pre-recorded video remarks,” Abbott spokesman Mark Miner said.

Instead, Abbott will travel to Uvalde for another press conference on “state resources available for those impacted by the Robb Elementary School shooting.” The event will take place at 3:30 p.m., shortly after the governor was set to address NRA attendees.

It will be Abbott’s second news conference in Uvalde after Tuesday’s shooting. During the first on Wednesday, Abbott rejected any efforts to restrict gun access, instead saying lawmakers should focus on expanding mental health resources in rural areas.

Criminal investigation into fake Trump electors reaches new level

The idiots/maganuts who agree to be fake electors need to worry

In late January, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco confirmed that the Justice Department is “looking at” the matter, as part of an “ongoing” investigation. According to a New York Times report published this afternoon, federal investigators have “stepped up” their criminal probe.

A federal grand jury in Washington has started issuing subpoenas in recent weeks to people linked to the alternate elector plan, requesting information about several lawyers including Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani and one of his chief legal advisers, John Eastman, one of the people said. The subpoenas also seek information on other pro-Trump lawyers like Jenna Ellis, who worked with Mr. Giuliani, and Kenneth Chesebro, who wrote memos supporting the elector scheme in the weeks after the election.

.....Remember, it was in early February that the public started to learn the degree to which the former president’s team was directly connected to the fake electors scheme. The New York Times reported at the time on a Trump campaign lawyer in Wisconsin receiving a memo in November 2020 “setting out what became the rationale for an audacious strategy: to put in place alternate slates of electors in states where President Donald J. Trump was trying to overturn his loss.”

That memo, sent just two weeks after Election Day 2020, was written by Kenneth Chesebro, a Trump lawyer referenced in today’s reporting. Three weeks later, the same Trump lawyer sent a second memo, shortly before actual electors were set to cast their votes, offering a step-by-step guide on what the fake electors would have to do.

He's obviously not alone. Eastman reportedly contacted state legislators, falsely advising them that they had the authority to certify fake electors, while Giuliani has been accused of helping coordinate the fake electors scheme.

On Jan. 6, Jim Jordan abandons his 'nothing to hide' position

Gym Jordan is too stupid to pass the bar exam but Gym does know to be worried. Gym knows that he may be a DOJ target and is worried.

In the months following the Jan. 6 attack, Rep. Jim Jordan seemed wholly unconcerned about scrutiny. In fact, the Ohio Republican suggested publicly that he’d be the model of transparency.

“If they call me, I got nothing to hide,” the far-right lawmaker said last summer. A few months later, during a House Rules Committee hearing, the Ohioan echoed the sentiment, insisting, “I’ve said all along, I have nothing to hide.”....

Country singer Larry Gatlin has opted not to perform at this weekend's NRA Convention in Houston.

His announcement comes on the heels of Don McLean's decision to also pull out of Saturday's Grand Ole Night Of Freedom Concert at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

In a statement, Gatlin, who is known for his conservative views, said that he cannot "in good conscience" perform and that he is in support of background checks. He also suggested arming teachers could have prevented the tragedy in Uvalde.

"I pray that the NRA will rethink some of its outdated and ill-thought-out positions regarding firearms in AMERICA," he said.
