At this point, if proponents of a US default were hauled off in police vans

and never heard from again...

I'd cheer loudly and sing America The Beautiful, followed by three pledges of allegiance and fireworks.

But I won't divulge how I really feel.

Grimes raises $2.5 million, besting McConnell

Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) raised $2.5 million for her Senate bid between July and September, a big haul that outpaced her opponent, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Grimes's fundraising team includes veterans of Sen. Elizabeth Warren's 2012 campaign. The Massachusetts Democrat was last cycle's most impressive fundraiser.

After her first quarter as a Senate candidate, Grimes has about $2 million cash on hand, a Democrat familiar with her total confirmed.
McConnell raised nearly $2.3 million during the same period. He has nearly $10 million in the bank -- a hefty total that underscores the game of catch-up that Grimes has to play.

Son of slain Sikh leader to challenge Paul Ryan's seat as a Democratic candidate

MILWAUKEE — The son of a slain Sikh temple president plans to challenge U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan in next year’s congressional election, in a Wisconsin district where support for the 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee has been strong but slipping.

Amar Kaleka, 35, told The Associated Press he’ll file paperwork Wednesday to form an exploratory congressional committee. He plans to formally announce his candidacy as a Democrat next month.

Kaleka said he wants to bring accountability and transparency back to Washington. He blamed the government shutdown on Ryan, who’s the House Budget Committee chairman, and his GOP colleagues. He said citizens are tired of career politicians who care more about staying in power than serving the people.

Healthcare.gov is a complete failure

As an apology to early users of Grand Theft Auto V's online mode, Rockstar Games on Friday announced plans to give all its online players $500,000 in in-game currency.

The "stimulus package" comes as a response to myriad technical issues many players faced when attempting to use the video game title's online mode, which is a first for the series.

"For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet," Rockstar said in a blog post.

Wherever the fine line is between combating piracy and user experience, Electronic Arts crossed it with a trouble-plagued launch of the new SimCity game this week.

Nearly three days after the public debut of the Maxis city-building game for PC, users around the world were still regularly unable to log onto EA servers to play it. Frustrated gamers were receiving various error messages indicating servers weren’t available or login was closed.

The update to iOS 7 has not been smooth sailing for all.

Many users on Twitter, as well as on Apple's support site are reporting issues when attempting to install the update, which went out earlier today.

Affected users are reporting that the downloads will stop, with a warning error pop-up that says the "software update failed." Others are saying they cannot connect to the iTunes Store to update apps.

The plan Senator Collins will announce... UPDATE: Senate Dem leaders reject it.

The bill would also delay Obamacare’s tax on medical devices for two years, while replacing the lost revenue by altering the way pensions are calculated. It would give increased autonomy to the heads of federal agencies under the constraints of sequester spending levels and provide funding increases for fire suppression, a key item for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

But the clock is the biggest enemy for all sides. It’s unclear if a deal brokered by the Senate could come together before Thursday, when the $16.7 trillion debt limit must be boosted, according to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew. House Republican leadership sources say their offer of a six-week debt limit increase might regain favor if a Senate-brokered deal does not come together before that deadline.

The House goes out of session Saturday and will return Monday evening.

Senate GOP: Boehner has 24-48 hours to act or we're moving on our own

House Speaker John Boehner has a day or two max to strike a debt ceiling and government funding deal before some of his Republican Senate colleagues move more aggressively on their own ideas, several impatient GOP Senators have told CNN.

The Senators say they are willing to give Boehner a bit more time, about 24 to 48 hours, to come to an agreement with the White House to raise the debt ceiling and reopen the government.

One option Boehner is currently pursuing, a six week increase to the debt ceiling, is becoming more and more unpopular, say multiple Senate GOP sources.
