HAB911's JournalThe Gun Rights Absolutists Bringing Constitutional Carry to a State Near You
The crusade for concealed guns in public with no permits began at a diner in Arizona. Now it's going nationalwith or without the NRA.
No-compromise gun activists are building momentum for state laws that allow firearms owners to bring their weapons into public spaces without securing the government permits or completing the proficiency training now required in most parts of the country.
Their efforts, which have already led to new laws and legislative proposals across a quarter of the United States, is wrapped in the language of high ideals: Advocates call their preferred policy constitutional carry, the idea being that the only authorization they need to take their guns wherever they please was extended by the Founding Fathers themselves.
The crusade seems to have begun around a table at a 1950s-themed greasy spoon in Arizona, where four frustrated gun advocates hatched a plan between bites of barbecue.
We decided that the Constitution means what it says, said Charles Heller, one of the men gathered around the table at the 5 & Diner that summer day.

Evan Rachel Woods Big Bisexual Moment
In a powerful speech, the actress Evan Rachel Wood talked about using the power of her celebrity to help bisexual people struggling with shame and depression.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Evan Rachel Wood is saving lives.
The 29-year-old Westworld star and increasingly outspoken bisexual advocate delivered a moving address at a Human Rights Campaign gala in North Carolina last weekend, where she was being honored with an HRC Visibility Award.
The speech has since spread widely online for good reason: Wood was powerfully honest about the bisexual communitys underreported struggles with shame, depression, fear, and suicideand about how she can use her celebrity status to help fight those battles.
I choose to use my voice because it would feel selfish to have acquired the platform to represent the underrepresented and to not use it, she said near the end of her speech.

U.S. court upholds Obama-era retirement advice rule
Source: Reuters
A U.S. federal judge on Wednesday upheld an Obama-era rule designed to avoid conflicts of interests when brokers give retirement advice, in a possible setback for President Donald Trump's efforts to scale back government regulation.
The stinging 81-page ruling comes just days after Trump ordered the Labor Department to review the "fiduciary" rule - a move widely interpreted as an effort to delay or kill the regulation.
The decision by Chief Judge Barbara Lynn for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas is a stunning defeat for the business and financial services industry groups that had sought to overturn it.
And while it is not expected to stop the Labor Department from delaying the rule's April 10 compliance deadline while it conducts the review, some legal experts say it could make it more difficult for the Labor Department to find a way to justify scrapping or significantly altering the rule.

Gun Violence Researchers Race to Protect Data From Trump
Around 11 am Pacific on January 20th, while newly-inaugurated President Trump finished a celebratory lunch in the Capitol Rotunda, Magdalena Cerdá noticed something different about the White Houses website: All of its references to climate change had disappeared. Cerdá is an epidemiologist at UC Davis Violence Prevention Research Program, which focuses on another politicized region of sciencegun violence. So she knew what that meant.
It was a real call to action, Cerdá says. With links to climate data vanishing, she worried the same thing could happen to gun violence data on websites belonging to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. I was on Amtrak between Berkeley and Sacramento, she says. So I sent an email to Garen Wintemute saying we needed to start downloading our data immediately.

Trump accuser follows Cosby playbook by pursuing defamation suit
Source: CNBC/REUTERS
When former reality television contestant Summer Zervos accused Donald Trump of sexual misconduct last fall, she pursued her claims solely in the court of public opinion, since the allegations dated too far back to allow a lawsuit.
But last month, she found a fresh approach to fight the former host of "The Apprentice," who has vehemently denied her allegations that he groped her in 2007. By professing his innocence, the man who is now president of the United States had effectively called her a liar, Servos alleges in a defamation lawsuit.
The suit copied a rare legal tactic employed most notably by several women who have accused the actor and comedian Bill Cosby of sexual assault: using his denials as the basis for a defamation claim.

Dear President Bannon
Trump naysayers wage letter-writing campaign to troll the President. The #PostcardsToBannon movement encourages people to write to President Trump's chief strategist instead
Writing a letter to the president is almost as ubiquitous as writing a letter to Santa. When President Obama took office, he relished the opportunity to read his mail, pledging to read 10 letters a day. President Trump will be lucky if he receives 10 letters on Wednesday at this rate, because critics of the president have found an unorthodox way to express their disapproval through the postal service.
With the hashtag #PostcardstoBannon, Twitter users have been sharing the postcards and letters they plan on mailing to the White House.

Hack Turns Amazon Dash Button Into Trump-Fighting Machine
Ordering Doritos on demand is pretty great, but this is such a better use of your Amazon Dash button.
Programmer Nathan Pryor heard his friend wish for a device that would let her donate to the American Civil Liberties Union with the push of a button in response to reading news about President Donald Trump and his administrations problematic new policies.
Her language was sliiiiightly more colorful than that, but it got me thinking: why reserve that instant gratification for physical goods? Pryor wrote in a post on Medium. Why not push a button and do some real good?
I built an Amazon Dash button that donates $5 to the ACLU every time I click it, allowing an immediate, physical response when I read news of further assaults on our civil liberties, Pryor wrote on the caption of the video he uploaded to YouTube.

Save the sperm! Oh the humanity!
Male Birth Control Pills? Contraceptive Gel Injection Might Be Effective After Successful Trials, Research Shows
Researchers from the Parsemus Foundation said that a new male contraceptive gel injection to completely prevent pregnancy has been found to work reliably in a trial performed on rabbits and monkeys, thus increasing the possibility of male birth control in humans.
In a report, published Monday in the journal, Basic and Clinical Andrology, researchers said they had tested a new contraceptive gel called Vasalgel in male monkeys, and found that it was effective at preventing pregnancy during the monkeys' mating seasons. Vasalgel consists of a polymer gel injected into the vas deferens, which is the tube through which the sperm flows. The gel blocks the passage of sperm from the testicles into the penis thus barring them from escaping. It's effects have been long lasting and reversible.

When Trump and Huckabee disagree with something, they feminize it
Thats bad for everyone.
Following Judge James Roberts order Friday night temporarily stopping the federal government from enforcing parts of President Donald Trumps controversial visa ban, Trump lashed out against the so-called judge on Twitter, saying that Americans should blame him and the court system should something (presumably a national security disaster) happen.
Appearing on Fox News Monday morning, Christian minister and former Arkansas Gov. Mick Huckabee lobbed a different critique of the courts:
I think we have had an executive branch that has emasculated itself by surrendering constantly to the idea that once the court says something, thats it, he said.
This is not the first time Huckabee has invoked masculinity to demean a political foe. Over the weekend, he critiqued Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for tearing up during a press conference he called to oppose Trumps refugee ban:
