91° -109° this coming week.

Japan’s heat is taking a toll on the summer Olympics, making it more difficult for athletes already facing challenges from the pandemic to compete at their highest level.

The heat is tough -- it’s very humid, dense heat,” U.S. rugby player Ilona Maher told Bloomberg on Wednesday. “Our dietitian and trainer create ways to somehow cool our bodies -- whether it’s cool towels or we eat popsicles.”

California stimulus check: A 4th check confirmed for September

https://www.marca.com/en/lifestyle/2021/07/30/610426e446163fa9488b45ec.html

"California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law a state budget proposal that includes a fourth stimulus check for residents of the Sunshine State."

"It is expected that two-thirds of Californians will qualify for these latest payments. That's because individuals earning up to 75,000 dollars and families earning up to 150,000 dollars per year will qualify to receive the stimulus. Those people must, though, must have lived in California for more than half of the 2020 tax year and still reside in California when the check is sent out."

"The main stimulus check will be for 600 dollars, but people with ITINs (Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers) can also receive an extra 600 dollars, while taxpayers with dependents can receive an extra 500 dollars."

What do pro-science, pro-vaccine advocates

have to do to get as much momentum and public support as the loud mouthed anti-vaxxers? They dominate the news/media and have for a year. It is getting worse and worse, just like Covid. How do we turn the tables and make them the true villains who are basically killing Americans. When will be the dominate voice?

*I'm mad as Hell and not gonna take it anymore!!!

Wildfire smoke covers Central Park, 2500 miles away.

Keith Olbermann (@KeithOlbermann) Tweeted:
New Video: This is the NYC Wildfire Haze.

A skyline blurred and enshrouded - complete with a sickening acrid smell - from fires induced by our abuse of the planet. But the fires are 2500 miles away, in Oregon and California.

Like the climate disaster it portends, it's here now. https://t.co/aQYRXM1JoR https://twitter.com/KeithOlbermann/status/1417597683980664834?s=20

Minimum wage workers can't afford rent anywhere in America

https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/15/homes/rent-affordability-minimum-wage/index.html

There is no state, county or city in the country where a full-time, minimum-wage worker working 40 hours a week can afford a two-bedroom rental, a report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition showed.

A full-time minimum-wage worker can afford a one-bedroom rental in only 7% of all US counties — 218 counties out of more than 3,000 nationwide.

The federal minimum wage is $7.25.

But the report showed that a worker would need to earn $24.90 per hour in order to afford a two-bedroom home at Fair Market Rent. And a $20.40 "housing wage" would be needed for a one-bedroom. Fair Market Rents are government estimates of what a person should expect to pay for a modest home in their area.

A housing wage is the amount a worker would need to earn to afford a home without spending more than 30% of their income on rent and utilities.

I am 57, retired teacher and illustrator, life-long dem., activist, union member. Also I do not use social media and I'm technologically retarded. I love dogs, rock music and swearing (a lot). My 17 year old "puppy" died on June 2, 2020. She grew up listening to Animals (Pink Floyd). She has kept me sane through the tRump years, not easy, and has given me endless love, companionship, kisses and tail wags.
