The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced earlier this month that District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Lt. Shane Lamond had been indicted on four federal criminal charges: one for obstruction of justice, three for making false statements. DOJ prosecutors allege that Lamond shared police information with Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio and tipped him off about a case against him: the one in which he was arrested for his part in burning a Black Lives Matter sign that had been stolen from an African-American church in late 2020.

Michael Fanone, a former MPD officer who was violently attacked by Donald Trump supporters inside the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, has been sounding the alarm about far-right extremists working for police departments.

Fanone, now a CNN contributor, told Politico, "I think that most law enforcement agencies in this country are scrambling to maintain the officers they have and recruit new ones to replace the hundreds that they've lost. The last thing that they're worried about is coming up with a comprehensive screening process for domestic extremism.”

What is Wrong with White Christian Men?

What do serial killers Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Earle Nelson, Henry Lee Lucas, Gary Ridgway, Dean Corll and Wayne Williams have in common? They are white Anglosaxon Christians. There are only two black serial killer: Samuel Little and John Allen (the "D.C. sniper" of 2001).

What do mass shooters Connor Betts (Dayton nightclub, Aug 2019), Patrick Crusius (El Paso Walmart, Aug 2019), DeWayne Craddock (Virginia Beach, May 2019), David Long (Thousand Oaks, Nov 2018), Robert Bowers (Pittsburgh synagogue, Oct 2018), Dimitrios Pagourtzis (Santa Fe High School, May 2018), Nikolas Cruz (Stoneman Douglas High School, Feb 2018), Devin Kelley (Sutherland Springs church, Nov 2017), Stephen Paddock (Las Vegas, Oct 2017), Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook, Dec 2012), James Holmes (Aurora theater, July 2012), Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (Columbine High School, April 1999), George Hennard (Killeen, 1991), James Huberty (San Ysidro, 1984), Charles Whitman (Austin, 1966) and Patrick Sherill (Edmond, 1986) have in common? There is only one (one) mass shooting carried out by an Asian, Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech, Apr 2007), and two (two) carried out by Muslims: Omar Mateen (Orlando nightclub, June 2016) and Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik (San Bernardino, Dec 2015). Not a single mass shooting by a black man (more than 9 people killed).

Mass shooters and serial killers are white Christian men, with rare exceptions, and frequently with Anglosaxon last names.
("Mass shooting" and "serial killer" here refers to more than 9 homicides. The higher the threshold you choose, the more likely that they are mostly white Christians with an Anglosaxon last name. The lower the threshold, the more likely that there are also other groups. Racists lower the threshold of "mass shooting" to two victims so that most killers are from poor violent neighborhoods, i.e. blacks; but most of us think that a "mass" shooting is not a shooting of two people; two is not a "mass".

These are routinely classified as cases of "mental illness" but why is it that this kind of mental illness seems to affect mainly white Christian men born in the USA? Note that articles on these mass shootings often omit the name of the shooter (they normally only mention the place and date), whereas any article on an Islamic terrorist attack would include the names of the attackers (to emphasize their religion and origin).

On an overcast Saturday in the small North Texas suburb of Princeton, a tiny church-turned-community center became one of the latest fronts in the far right’s ongoing culture crusade against drag shows and the broader LGBTQ community.

Masked members of the left-wing community defense group Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club, clad in black and toting handguns and radios, had already staked out positions around the perimeter of the Steve and Judy Deffibaugh Community Center before self-described “Christian fascist” Kelly Neidert pulled up with her own armed private security. About a half-dozen Princeton police officers stood watch. Neidert is the head of the so-called Protect Texas Kids (PTK) group, which baselessly claims to be defending children from “grooming.” In reality, advocates point out, the group is using false narratives to stoke hatred and violence against the LGBTQ community.

Armed members of Veterans for Equality showed up to defend “A Drag Queen Christmas” outside the Aztec Theater in San Antonio in December, for instance, some open carrying and others concealing their firearms. “When we first came in [to the military], we swore an oath to fight enemies foreign and domestic, and right now we feel like the domestic part is really having an effect on us and trying to strip away our rights,” Veterans for Equality Cofounder Gen Peña told Truthout during the protest.

Moreover, venues hosting drag shows targeted by far right militants are increasingly hiring professional private security in advance of protests. Drag performers who can’t afford pricey private security services, however, are finding they can rely directly on the community itself.

Eating locally caught freshwater fish can put PFAS in human blood, study says

Eating one locally caught freshwater fish in a year delivers as much potentially health-harming nonstick PFAS compounds to the blood as drinking PFAS-contaminated water for a month, newly published scientific research finds.

Eating these fish "is like drinking some of the most PFAS-contaminated water that you could find in any public water system in the country, if not worse," said David Andrews, senior scientist with the nonprofit Environmental Working Group in Washington, D.C., which conducted the study with Duke University.

The researchers reviewed data from more than 500 fish fillet samples collected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 2013 to 2015 in two programs: nationwide in its National Rivers and Streams Assessment and for the Great Lakes Human Health Fish Fillet Tissue Study. More than 44 different fish species were sampled, including popular sport fish such as largemouth and smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, northern pike and more.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — PFAS — were compounds used throughout industry and in commercial products since the mid-20th century for their nonstick and water-resistant properties, including Teflon-coated pots and pans, Scotchgard carpet stain protection and Gore-Tex rain-resistant clothing. The compounds have been dubbed "forever chemicals" because they generally fail to break down in nature. In recent years, they've been found to contribute to a host of human health problems, including cancer.
