Flint Firefighter Who Returned to Work After Leaving Black Boys Behind in Blaze Quits
Zlotek and his former colleague, Sergeant Daniel Sniegocki, both of whom are white, were tasked with searching for victims trapped in the burning house on Pulaski Street in late May. ZyAire Mitchell, 12, and LaMar Mitchell, 9, were missed in the search as they slept, with Zlotek and Sniegocki calling an all-clear for their rooms. Another crew discovered the boys seven minutes later, rushing them to a nearby hospital. They died days later.
The citys fire chief, Raymond Barton, determined in an investigation that Zlotek and Sniegocki later knowingly made false reports about properly sweeping the house. Sniegocki resigned his position after the fire, but Zlotek returned to workafter two weeks suspension and a course in search-and-rescue training.
Zloteks departure was first confirmed to The Flint Journal by a city spokeswoman. A spokeswoman for Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeleys office declined to speak to The Daily Beast when reached by phone.
In his report, Fire Chief Barton had written hed determined the best course of action was to terminate both Zlotek and Sniegocki. But after advisement from three officialsCity Attorney William Kim, Flints Director of Human Resources Eddie Smith, and City Administrator Clyde Edwardsthe chief reversed course, the Beast reported earlier this month. The decision sparked outrage in the community, as well as allegations of a cover-up by the Neeleys administration. Neeley, a Democrat, was re-elected to office last week.

Sheriff's Deputy and Daughter Killed in Crash While Returning from Disneyland Allegedly Caused by DUI Driver
Daniel Jacks had been with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department since 2008, and his daughter, Hannah, was a dancer who had performed at Disneyland
---
According to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Correctional Corporal Daniel Jacks, 45, of San Jacinto, and his daughter Hannah died as a result of the collision, which took place in Hemet at about 9:17 p.m.
FoxLA reports the father and daughter were coming home from Disneyland, where Hannah had been performing as a dancer. The California Highway Patrol says the collision took place when another car traveling in the opposite direction crossed over the double yellow line and hit them head-on.
The driver of the other vehicle, Scott Bales, 47, of Moreno Valley, has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of DUI causing bodily injury, according to Riverside County jail records.
The Desert Sun, citing county court records, reports Bales was previously convicted of DUI in Riverside County in 2008, 2014 and 2020. The East Bay Times reports he has not had a valid driver's license since 2005.

Freedom spent over $1.7 million in four of the six states with abortion ballot measures this cycle Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan and Montana. (There were also ballot measures in the safe Democratic states of California and Vermont.) The group partnered with local grassroots organizations to protect abortion rights, providing them with polling and strategic advice. The group was driven by a simple thesis: When given the option, voters in red and purple states will support abortion rights at the polls if the issue is divorced from partisan politics. On Election Day, that thesis proved to be mostly correct.
The initial test of whether ballot measures in defense of abortion rights could be more popular when put to the voters directly came in Kansas, a red state, in August, soon after Dobbs. Voters there weighed in on a constitutional amendment that would have allowed the state legislature to restrict abortion in the state. The amendment, which had been put on the ballot before the Supreme Courts decision and timed to coincide with the primary elections in a deep-red state that no Democratic presidential candidate had carried since Lyndon Johnson, failed overwhelmingly.
In that campaign, FUF contributed $600,000 to the local group Kansans for Constitutional Freedom, which coordinated abortion-rights efforts in the campaign.
That initial win molded Families United for Freedoms thinking and approach, Rachael Bedard, the groups executive director, told POLITICO. I think Kansas is this really important case study in a red state with lots of folks who self-identify as Republicans and independents showing up to vote, she said. Those voters supported abortion rights far more than anticipated, Bedard said, because the modeling had not been adjusted to reflect how political attitudes on abortion rights had changed in the aftermath of Dobbs.

Trump barred attendees of his presidential announcement from leaving Mar-a-Lago until he was done: report
"Donald Trump announced his latest bid for the White House to a practically captive audience at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Tuesday night," reported Ed Mazza. "ABCs Jonathan Karl called the speech 'incredibly low energy' and said he saw people leaving in the middle of it ― until they were blocked from departing."
Further, according to the report, "ABCs Olivia Rubin filmed a crowd forming near the doors, waiting for a chance to leave as Trump rambled in the background."

Talking with Larry Kudlow on Fox, Herschel Walker, the GOP Senate nominee in Georgia, said, If I do not win that seat, we may not recognize America. He further said, I want every kid in America to have that American Dream. Well, I can tell you right now, if I dont win that seat, no other American will ever have that American Dream again.
A question: Does anyone believe that?
Even rw national review questions the crazy gop rhetoric from the campaigns

Trump 3.0 is a changed man hes now a loser
Conservatives who were pleased that Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016 often expressed hope that high office would change him. But that didnt happen. They optimistically suggested hed grow into the Oval Office, smooth his rough edges, shed portions of his narcissism, vulgarity, and brutality, and insult and betray fewer people while learning to control his tantrums.
But all those glaring failings continued through his four years in power and beyond. They have been clear during his two years of falsehood and whining about his 2020 defeat at the hands of Joe Biden, previously an also-ran loser in two pitiful bids for the White House.
But just because Trump retains all the excruciating qualities he ever had doesnt mean hes unchanged. In one important respect, he is very different now. He is a loser. And he knows it. Every fiber of his bulky being betrays what he cant admit that hes fast losing the support he once enjoyed and the confidence it fed within him.

As updated vote tallies began to cement a loss for Trump-backed Arizona governor candidate Kari Lake on Monday, a far-right state lawmaker who told a gathering of white nationalists that we need to build more gallows started to have second thoughts about her partys pitch to voters.
We wonder now if we were in an echo chamber, said state Sen. Wendy Rogers (R), who has also suggested throwing county officials in solitary confinement and spent years lying about the 2020 election.
I dont know, Im just beginning to get some perspective, added Rogers.
