Rep. Matt Gaetz cut off a reporter's question about his vaccination status

Gaetz did not let the CNN reporter finish their question about whether he has been vaccinated against the coronavirus. Instead he replied: "That's very nosy of you."

The lawmaker is one of 97 Republicans who have refused to disclose their vaccination status, with many arguing that it's a personal matter, CNN reported.

"I don't think it's anybody's damn business whether I'm vaccinated or not," Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas told CNN.

Democrats have slammed GOP lawmakers who have not revealed if they've gotten the vaccine. Critics view the move as irresponsible, claiming that Congress has a responsibility to boost public confidence in the vaccine as misinformation runs rampant. All Democrats in the House and Senate are fully vaccinated, per CNN.

Gaetz does not appear to be interested in the vaccination push coming from his colleagues. The lawmaker showed up to a "Free Britney" rally last week outside a Los Angeles courthouse ahead of the singer's conservatorship hearing.

'Nobody wants to work anymore': How a simple phrase became the oversimplified scapegoat for every problem plaguing the American labor market

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/nobody-wants-to-work-anymore-how-a-simple-phrase-became-the-oversimplified-scapegoat-for-every-problem-plaguing-the-american-labor-market/ar-AAMrMEa?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531

On a recent trip to Pennsylvania, I heard the phrase "nobody wants to work anymore" over and over.
It's become common since businesses began reopening fully this spring.

As with so many memes this year, this one began on TikTok and spread quickly.

Maybe you've seen it on a sign at your local Taco Bell drive-thru, or as part of a screed on social media: "Nobody wants to work anymore."

The phrase has become strikingly common in current American society, and taken at face value, it stands to reason that everyone has collectively decided to stop working.

On a recent trip near Reading, Pennsylvania, I heard the phrase no less than three times in 24 hours from three completely different people.

---------

"Instead of no one wants to work anymore," former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich said, "Try no one wants to be exploited anymore."

Sheriff's Captain Found Passed Out in Traffic Sent Home With Fist Bump, No Impaired Screenings

According to WFTV in Orlando, the incident occurred on July 8 near County Road 419. Officers with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene after fellow drivers reported a man seen passed out in the car on the road.

In body camera footage of the incident obtained by WFTV, responding officers can be seen blocking the man's car in from the front and back and proceeding to knock on the man's window for several minutes. Numerous firefighters and emergency medical service personnel can be seen blocking the road and surrounding the man's car.

"He either ODed or asleep?" one of the responding deputies can be heard saying in the video.

WFTV reported that in the body camera video, another responding officer asked the man in the vehicle if he fell asleep and in response the man said, "I'm a captain with the sheriff's office."

"Oh, oh," the responding deputy can be heard saying in the video. "I'm sorry, man."

-----------------

As the deputies were about to close the man's door and send him on his way, one of the responding deputies can be heard saying "You're good, you're good, just leave, this didn't happen."

The man in the vehicle can be seen giving the other responding deputy a fist bump just before he closed his door.

Almost as quickly as crews arrived, they were ready to go. The off-duty captain, who was asleep in traffic just moments earlier, was allowed back out onto the roads without a screening by EMTs on site, a sobriety check, or further questioning.

“You’re good, just leave, this didn’t happen,” a responding deputy said while laughing.

9 Investigates asked whether there was a policy in place dictating what would trigger a sobriety or medical check before someone is allowed to drive away in a situation like this. A sheriff’s office spokesperson said every situation is unique, and it is ultimately the deputy’s discretion based on training and experience.

The spokesperson went on to say that upon awakening, the driver showed “no signs of impairment or further concerns to deputies.” An incident report was not completed.

The driver’s face is blurred in the video provided by the sheriff’s office, but we learned it is Capt. Kip Beacham, who oversees the Community Justice and Rehabilitation Division, according to the sheriff’s office website. He is a 24-year-veteran with the agency.

woman, not yet connected to bungee cord, mishears "jump" command for herself, falls to her death

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/woman-dies-in-fall-in-colombia-after-mishearing-bungee-jump-instructor/ar-AAMrHGO?ocid=msedgntp

A woman fell to her death earlier this week after she misheard her bungee jump instructor.

The incident occurred Sunday in Amaga, a town in northern Colombia, when Yecenia Morales, 25, was waiting for her chance to leap from a viaduct. She misheard the instructor who had told her boyfriend to jump and stepped off the platform before her bungee cord was attached and plummeted 150 feet.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and may have suffered a heart attack midair, according to The Mirror.

“She got confused. The signal was for the boyfriend to jump because he was already attached to the security equipment,” Fredonia mayor Gustavo Guzmán told El Tiempo. “They had only put the harness on her so she got confused and rushed.”

Betty Antoine's 46-year-old son Brandon became a COVID statistic—despite her pleading with him to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

"I begged him, I said, 'You need to take the vaccine, Brandon.' 'Oh, no, mom, I'm not going to take it. And you better not take the vaccine either,' Antoine recalled in a conversation with CBS News' David Begnaud.

"His doctor wanted him to take the vaccine. He told her no, he was not taking the vaccine because he knew all the things that was wrong with it," Antoine said.

He told his mom and his friends he had done the research and wanted to wait, but Antoine said her son left out an important detail to his friends.

"He did not tell his friends all the underlying health conditions he had. He had a bad heart. The left side of his heart was damaged. He had lung problems, COPD," she said. Brandon tested for COVID-19 and died six later. Standing next to his bedside, Antoine said she was overcome with a sense of purpose.

Antoine offered COVID-19 vaccines during his funeral. Three people stepped up that day to take the vaccine and 10 others followed later.

Florida church youth pastor arrested 3rd time for video voyeurism

PENSACOLA — A Florida Panhandle church youth director who was already facing video voyeurism charges after a hidden camera was found in a bathroom has been arrested again, officials said.

David Nims, 37, remained in the Escambia County Jail on Tuesday following his arrest Friday on eight more video voyeurism charges, the Pensacola News Journal reported.

It was the third arrest on similar charges in less than two months for the youth director at Calvary Baptist Church in Pensacola. The videos showed people using the restroom at the church, officials said.

David Patrick Nims, who served as a volunteer director of youth ministries at a Pensacola church, was arrested after investigators say he installed a hidden camera in a church bathroom.

Escambia County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Nims again on June 11 after they found more than 100 images of child pornography while executing a search warrant at his home, records show.

'Have him die somewhere else,' Florida homeowners yell at man trying to save neighbor's life

A Florida man was introduced to two very different kinds of neighbors this week.

One of them is being hailed a hero for possibly saving his life as he convulsed inside a car — which rolled down into the lawn of a family who, instead of helping, yelled at them to get off their property, authorities said Thursday.

“Get off our lawn,” the homeowners reportedly said. “Get the man out of here, have him die somewhere else.”

The shocking incident happened Monday as a lawn worker identified only as “Tony” was walking to work in a Palm Beach County community, according to the local sheriff’s office. The man spotted a neighbor having a “serious seizure” inside his vehicle and immediately rushed to help him, going as far as trying to stop the moving car with his own hands, authorities said.

People Slam Celebrity Preacher Joel Osteen After Seeing His Latest Luxury Purchase
Celebrity preacher Joel Osteen has come under fire after social media users spotted pictures of his flashy new purchase.

The pastor is known to be one of the wealthiest and most popular in the United States, having claimed on his website to reach as many as 200 million homes across the country through platforms such as broadcasts and podcasts.

Osteen heads the Lakewood Church, a megachurch located in Houston, Texas, after being ‘thrust into full-time leadership’ when his father passed away in 1999.

While pastors are not typically people we associate with flashiness, Osteen’s wealth was made evident in images that showed his new Ferrari which reportedly cost $325,000.

Twitter users were quick to slam the purchase online, with one person claiming the preacher ‘exploits religion and his followers to feed his own gluttony’.

Another Twitter user wrote: ‘Ferrari is trending. That means either someone won a race or Joel Osteen took some of the money Jesus told him to give to the poor and went on another shopping spree.’

Regent Palace condo building near Champlain Towers South has been found to be structurally unsound

https://nypost.com/2021/07/21/florida-condo-near-building-collapse-site-deemed-unsafe/

A Florida condo building less than six blocks from the ruins of Champlain Towers South has been found to be structurally unsound — and residents are moving out in droves.

Regent Palace in Surfside, whose residents funded their own engineering study after the June 24 collapse nearby, got an urgent notice from city inspectors about serious problems there — and didn’t wait to pack up and leave, WTVJ-TV said.

“Honestly, you know, the building was analyzed and deemed unsafe, so we’re not gonna take any risk,” Regent resident Theo Magnat said.

“You know a couple of blocks down a building actually collapsed, so we don’t want anything tragic to happen,” Magnat told the station.

The decision came after an alarming notice from the Surfside Building Department, which told the condo association the situation was so dire that the building needed to make immediate repairs before even seeking permits.
