The placebo effect is SCIENCE

It's an actual thing. If people believe that something is curing them, then it turns out that something happens in the brain to allow the body to help things along. This is not quite yet understood, but it is well documented, and it is real.

Homeopathy is bullshit (it's water, people), so is acupuncture, so are a lot of so called "herbal" treatments and cures. Chiropractors are 99% of the time a scam as well. Praying doesn't do anything, either. For the most part, these things are little more than superstition.

But if people really, truly, believe that something is happening in their bodies, then the placebo effect takes over. I know this is hard to swallow for us science minded folks. But sometimes ignorance truly is bliss. If I was suffering and nothing else was working for me, I'd' wish that I was science illiterate so that maybe the placebo effect would happen for me.

A blast from the past (post your own in here)

Remember this? Come on everyone, let's make fun of Republicans!

Income inequality is blind to gender, physical appearance, race, sexual orientation, ...

...background, culture, origin, religion, disability, illness, IQ, age, and whatever else I haven't thought of.

At the end of the day, the divisions of society are about class. The gay, black, female, overweight, quadriplegic born into a wealthy family will have more privilege than the straight, white, good looking male born in a crack house.

The "isms" are used as a way to divide us. The world's wealthy have amassed more property for themselves than ever at any time in human history.

The richest people on the planet got even richer in 2013, adding $524bn to their collective net worth, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a daily ranking of the world’s 300 wealthiest individuals.

The aggregate net worth of the world’s top billionaires stood at $3.7 trillion at the market close on Dec. 31, according to the ranking. The biggest gains came in the technology industry, which soared 28pc during the year. Of the 300 people who appeared on the final ranking of 2013, only 70 registered a net loss for the 12-month period.

300 people on this planet have 3.7 trillion dollars.

If those 300 people split it equally, they'd each have
$12333333333.

That's over 12 billion dollars each.

I know it's easy to be lured into your "ism" of choice. It keeps one occupied and distracted, which is exactly what those 300 people want. Because every bit of energy spent fighting amongst ourselves is a little bit of energy not spent fighting them, and they can pick our pockets some more.

Those 300 people include men and women, young and old. Their colors range from white to black and everything in between. Some of them may even be gay. To be honest, I don't know the actual breakdown of their demographics. But they don't concern themselves with such trivialities. They hope that you concern yourselves instead.

As George Carlin once said, they have their club, and you ain't in it. If we really want social justice, we need to start right here.

I think it deserves it's own thread: Gore won the election

Try and remember, people. Nader or not, it doesn't matter. Gore won.

Boys laugh at what they put girls through...

I don't know if Will Smith actually said this, though.
