Book bans and restrictions are a losing issue for Republicans
State GOP leaders have enacted laws or pushed for banning children from accessing certain books in school classrooms and libraries, and polling shows banning books is popular among Republicans. But the issue could come back to haunt the GOP in the 2024 general election, with book bans remain unpopular with the general electorate.
According to a recent survey from YouGov, which polled 1,000 adult American citizens and had a standard deviation of ±3.5%, the majority of Republican respondents — 58% — said that there's a time and place for public school classrooms or school libraries to ban books or novels.
The survey comes months after Florida's Republican-led legislature passed three high-profile laws in 2022, leading some public school classrooms to temporarily shutter their libraries as a select few media specialists have been tasked with reviewing tens of thousands of books to ensure they're age-appropriate.
And in Texas, school administrators in at least 20 school districts banned more than 800 books, the vast majority of which pertain to sexuality or race, with many of the bans arising after former state Rep. Matt Krause sent an inquiry to each school district to see if they had copies of the books in question.

Stop feeding the trolls!
That should be the democrats' new party platform from here on out. Like this is something that I've noticed with the new generation of MAGA / America First trolls. They troll for the sake of feeding off of hate and outrage. Like they live for that shit. Our misery is their pleasure. The sign of a true psychopath.
Take a look at someone like Chaya Raichik (the Libsoftiktok social media terrorist). She was at January 6th and was clearly identified as someone who entered the Capitol. Now she makes her living off of fake outrage, doxing people and feeding off of internet conspiracy theories as an influencer. Or that group One Million Moms who gets outraged by every single little thing that might feature an LGBT character or someone with an independent thought who doesn't fit the Murdoch christofascist white supremacist alpha male mold. Or that baker in Colorado who keeps denying LGBT people wedding cakes.
Stop feeding these people! Don't give them your outrage or give them airtime. It just amplifies their message and inspires copycats who will do further damage. Just block their nonsense, report, and move on. It's way past time to cut off and starve the trolls. Don't click on the clickbait. It's called that for a reason. Flip past any right wing garbage you see on social media. Block any advertisers who amplify this crap. Report Youtube channels, social media accounts, and downvote anything right wing that might pop up on whatever feeds you might have. These people got to where they are because we give them the attention they crave. We can win this fight by cutting them off and ignoring them. If they're the trolls, we can be the anti-trolls. Arkansas governor signs bill rolling back child labor protections
Arkansas Republican Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a bill into law this week that rolls back a number of child labor protections across the state, including a measure that had required employers to obtain work certificates for children under the age of 16.
“The Governor believes protecting kids is most important, but this permit was an arbitrary burden on parents to get permission from the government for their child to get a job,” Sanders’ spokesperson Alexa Henning said in a statement. “All child labor laws that actually protect children still apply and we expect businesses to comply just as they are required to do now.”
Previously, minors under the age of 16 needed to verify their age and get the written consent of a parent or guardian before a work certificate could be issued by the state’s Division of Labor. But H.B. 1410, known as the Youth Hiring Act of 2023, which passed the Arkansas state legislature earlier this month, no longer requires youth under the age of 16 to have that work certificate as a condition of their employment.
The bill’s passage comes after the Biden administration announced last month plans to crackdown on labor exploitation of migrant children across the country, the New York Times reported, following an investigation conducted by the publication.
Proponents of the legislation argued that removing the certificate would eliminate a tedious step that stood in the way of minors getting a job quickly in the state. They also said that the bill would restore decision-making to parents about their children and streamline the hiring process for minors.

Lindsay Graham proposes using military force against Mexico
South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is planning to introduce legislation that would allow the U.S. to use military force against Mexico in order to crack down on drug cartels.
Speaking to Fox News' Jesse Watters, Graham urged the U.S. to "get tough'' on Mexico after four American citizens were kidnapped in northeastern Mexico on March 4. Officials believe the kidnapping was a case of mistaken identity, with members of a Mexican cartel thinking the U.S. citizens were Haitian drug smugglers.
The kidnapping has prompted outrage from Republicans who accuse the Biden administration of failing to crack down on the Mexican drug trade and sufficiently prevent opioids such as fentanyl entering the U.S. from the southern border.
When asked by Watters how he would deal with the kidnapping of the U.S. citizens, Graham backed former Attorney General Bill Barr's recent suggestion of designating the drug cartels as terrorist organizations.
