The Milwaukee Bucks executive who dropped out of the Wisconsin Senate race this week is in a giving mood.

After he immediately threw his support behind fellow Democrat Mandela Barnes, the state’s lieutenant governor, Alex Lasry is now offering another gift to boost his former rival.

Lasry said he will use $584,000 worth of previously purchased airtime to run attack ads against Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, his campaign told NBC News.

The ads, set to begin airing Saturday, will focus on Johnson’s voting record, as well as his past comments about a Wisconsin company’s moving out of the U.S. to make products that are “dirt cheap.”.............................

Attorneys for right-wing provocateur Alex Jones argued Wednesday with the attorneys of Sandy Hook parents suing Jones for defamation. The heated exchange in the courtroom came after proceedings for the day had ended but were captured on camera, KXAN reported.

The argument arose in the Austin district courtroom where Jones is facing a civil trial for spreading lies stating the Sandy Hook, Conn. shooting never happened. Mark Bankston, attorney for the Sandy Hook parents, contested whether Jones' attorneys were allowed to play certain full video clips from Jones' show Infowars as evidence in the trial.

Bankston had played several different Infowars clips in which Jones or guests of the show discussed the Sandy Hook shooting during Wednesday's trial proceedings. ....................

The dispute continued on the courtroom floor after Wednesday's proceedings. At one point, Jones' attorney Reynal said "how about some brutal honesty?" and gave Bankston the middle finger. Another attorney on the parents' legal team eventually suggested they settle the dispute over the phone, ending the confrontation. .....................................

Question: How close are we as a society to the point of no return and losing all of our freedom? The

Think about the consequences of these horrible freedom losing laws [abortion laws and book banning and curriculum setting according to Republican ideology etc etc] we are now under--in the red states for now--with some of these laws in the courts for now and others in effect. If national laws come down, it will be worse.

How close are we as a society to the point of no return and losing all of our freedom? The state laws being implemented are beyond extreme and state governments are out of control facists.

Justice Kagan warns U.S. Supreme Court must maintain public confidence

By Dan Levine

BIG SKY, Montana, July 21 (Reuters) - Liberal Justice Elena Kagan said on Thursday that it would be a "dangerous thing for a democracy" if the conservative-majority U.S. Supreme Court loses the confidence of the American public.

Speaking in public for the first time since the court's momentous ruling last month that overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide, Kagan stressed the importance of the justices staying in their proper roles as judges and not dictating public policy. read more

"I'm not talking about any particular decision or even any particular series of decisions, but if over time the court loses all connection with the public and with public sentiment, that's a dangerous thing for a democracy," Kagan said at a judicial conference in Montana.

The court, America's top judicial body, has a 6-3 conservative majority that has boldly asserted its power in the abortion ruling and other recent cases. read more .......................

Godlewski will make Johnson unemployed -- Julie Bremer

Jul 26, 2022

I am a resident of Waukesha County and I will be casting my vote for Sarah Godlewski for Senate.

Sadly, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Oshkosh, has proven to the voters and citizens of Wisconsin that he is no longer stable nor fit to represent Wisconsin. He has shown Wisconsin residents that special interests and conspiracy theories have clouded his judgment. Godlewski is the only candidate who can win the general election and ensure that Johnson is unemployed in November.

Godlewski has called on President Joe Biden to expand protections for reproductive rights. She is the only woman in this race who has vowed to codify Roe and guarantee reproductive freedom. Godlewski understands that medical decisions about a woman’s body should be made between the woman and her medical team, not by men in Washington.

Godlewski is the best candidate for the state of Wisconsin. I’m proud to support her and her campaign.

Barack Obama: This has been a big week for the Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress. First

It is so good to see this. Biden deserves credit as he works against the Repugs day after day.

@BarackObama
This has been a big week for the Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress. First, Congress is on track to pass a bipartisan bill that will lower the cost of everything from cars to consumer goods, and make us less dependent on foreign semiconductors.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Susan Collins, one of a handful of GOP senators working to garner support in her party for a bill to codify gay marriage, said the Democrats’ surprise embrace of a tax and climate change bill made her job much harder.

“I just think the timing could not have been worse and it came totally out of the blue,” the Maine senator told HuffPost Thursday about Senate Democrats’ unveiling of their bill to raise taxes on some companies, boost IRS enforcement and spend the resulting money to fund anti-climate change efforts.

The news that West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) had arrived at an agreement broke like a thunderclap over official Washington early Wednesday night. The bill still faces hurdles, including ensuring all Senate Democrats are on board and will be available to vote on it when it comes to the floor. But if Democrats pull it off, it could be a big political victory for the party and the White House.

Still, Collins warned that the manner in which that victory was secured, where it appeared Democrats kept Manchin and Schumer’s negotiations under wraps until a separate bipartisan computer chip production incentive bill was passed by the Senate, hurt the effort to gather support among Republicans to bring the gay marriage bill to the floor...............................
