How I became "Fake news". Charlottesville witness...

How I Became Fake News
I witnessed a terrorist attack in Charlottesville. Then the conspiracy theories began.
By BRENNAN GILMORE August 21, 2017

Last Sunday evening, I received a worried call from my sister asking if I had spoken with my mother and father. I had spent the day doing interviews about the vehicle attack I witnessed the day before while protesting the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville and had not been in front of a computer all day. She told me that my parents’ home address had been posted on a neo-Nazi conspiracy theorist message board.

“They are suggesting that you arranged the attack, Brennan,” she said. “There are death threats against you.”

On Saturday morning, I witnessed James Fields smash his car into a crowd of demonstrators, killing Heather Heyer and wounding 19 others. Although I immediately shared the footage with police on the scene, it took me a half-hour to decide to post it publicly. I was concerned about how the footage might be used by the "alt-right" and felt uncomfortable knowing that I had probably filmed someone’s death. I did not want the attention posting the video was likely to bring. I consulted with friends and family, some of whom were also at the counterprotest and some of whom were watching the coverage from outside Charlottesville. They all urged me to share the video, and when I heard from friends that some media outlets were suggesting that it might have been an accident or that the driver might have been attempting to escape an angry mob, I knew I had to post it. The video I took—and the scene I witnessed with my own two eyes—clearly showed the attack was intentional. Fields drove down two empty blocks and plowed straight into the crowd before fleeing in reverse.

You know the White House, reads, and believes, this nonsense. Great article showing how it all works. From witness to conspiracy.

Music for tomorrow! Eclipse!

I'll be playing this during the eclipse as it makes its way to totality.

But tomorrow is going to need a bunch of before and after music too. Suggestions?

Al Gore's stupendous wealth complicates climate message

Al Gore’s Stupendous Wealth Complicates His Climate Message. That Can Change.
Right-wing critics say the former vice president’s wealth is hypocritical. By making his fortune a talking point, he could beef up his climate gospel.
By Alexander C. Kaufman

Al Gore has long been a knight of the movement to combat climate change. But when he returned to the national spotlight last month with his latest documentary, “An Inconvenient Sequel,” he did so in gilded armor.

The former vice president ― who boasted a relatively modest net worth of $1.7 million, held mostly in family farm assets, when he ran for president in 2000 ― has become a media mogul and financial titan over the past decade, with a personal fortune valued at upward of $200 million. His big comeback comes months after a populist wave swept President Donald Trump to a surprise election victory, setting the stage for the most aggressive rollback of environmental and climate policies in history.

The right has always used his wealth as a reason to disbelieve. They would find something else surely, but his wealth has always been number one.

The ONLY Confederate flag that matters!

From my friend, Carolyn Wonderland. (Who is an amazing singer, guitar player and a great activist. See her song to Molly Ivins)

A month after the “Stained Banner” was adopted, Lee needed to surrender. He didn’t happen to have any white cloth, so one of his men looted a white linen towel from one of the houses near where Lee was staying. This towel (which used to be a lot whiter, 150 years ago!) was used as a flag of truce in order for Lee to surrender to Grant at Appomattox.

What are the three most important Democratic ideas?

The Republicans have them, guns, god and anti abortion. Yeah, free markets, lower taxes and others too, but every Republican I know it comes down to those three. They are what keeps them solidly R.

Do Dems have them? How do we bring the Rs over if those are the main ideas? Or do we forget about it?

FBI: 'Destructive device' caused blast at Bloomington Islamic center

A blast caused by what the FBI called "a destructive device" rocked a Bloomington Islamic center at dawn Saturday, just as a small group of worshipers had gathered for the day's first round of prayers.

No one was hurt in the explosion, which heavily damaged an imam's office at the Dar Al Farooq Center and sent smoke wafting through the large building. Windows in the office were shattered, either by the blast or possibly by an object thrown through them.

The blast was reported at 5:05 a.m., a time when 15 to 20 people are usually gathered at the center for morning prayers, and awoke many residents of the neighborhood. Congregants and neighbors expressed relief that no one was hurt, but also reacted with shock and dismay

Senator Al Franken has decried the bombing. I do believe this country is engaged in an uprising.
