Worse than Khorasan? Could this be true?

I read that there's another terror group that will almost certainly kill tens of thousands of Americans within the next few months. It goes by the name INFLUENZA.

Apparently we know how to fire shots of some sort to stop it?

This sounds way worse than Khorasan. Could it be true? Anyone know if it's true, or BS?

If this is true, we should be unimaginably afraid.

Looks like it's the Greenwald-as-Libertarian crowd

That refrains from reading.

The article does not say what you claim.

There is ZERO way that Romney will be the Republican nominee for President

I know that any speculation about 2016 is silly stuff. (Yes, even my sig.) But every time I see speculation about Romney, my eyeballs spontaneously roll uncomfortably in their sockets. It hurts. Please stop.

By the time he was done in 2012, Romney had power-mooned 47% of Americans by calling them worthless leeches, and was widely reviled by Republicans. I know one of his higher-up campaign people, and even he'd grown to dislike the fellow (but likes Elizabeth Warren's proposals, even if he's still leery of Warren herself).

Not going to happen.

Koch Brothers attack Elizabeth Warren

In yesterday's USA Today, an attack op-ed by a "senior analyst" at the Koch Brothers' Reason Foundation:

Ex-Im bank stand betrays Warren's populist roots

Of course, instead of reading the Koch-spin, one can simply see what Warren says about the issue:

I think this is generally good news. If the Kochs are going after Warren, she must be making 'em sweat. Let's help her to keep going!

Glenn Greenwald: his media army of Libertarian disruptors

Another Glenn Greenwald eruption, and more howls of outrage from the Liberterian Purity Left when we real Democrats stop Greenwald COLD with our version of the TRUTH!

But did you know that these Homeland-hatin' LibSymps are even embedded deeply within our media?

Knowledge is power, people! KNOW YOUR ENEMY!

Look, with your own eyes, see what these so-called "Democrats" in our very own media have to say about the most hard-core Libertarian on Earth today:

"Glenn Greenwald is not just the American Left's most fearless political commentator; his fearlessness is such that he has shifted the expectations for everyone else, too. His rock-ribbed principles and absolute disregard for partisan favor have made U.S. political discourse edgier, more confrontational, and much much better."
- Rachel Maddow

"The first thing I do when I turn on the computer in the morning is go to Glenn Greenwald's blog to see what he said. He is truly one of our greatest writers right now."
- Michael Moore

"The most important voice to have entered the political discourse in years."
- Bill Moyers

Do we really need to hear any more of this? I think we all know what's going on.

Better than Bush!!!

I read a number of posts yesterday stating that Holder was a good AG because he was better than Gonzales.

Oh boy!

First off, setting the threshold for "acceptable" at "better than the Bush administration" is flat-out terrifying. There's a lot of space between "Bush" and "decent". Nixon was better than Bush. Reagan was better than Bush.

I want better than better than Bush, much better, and you should too.

Second, which sounds more compelling to Americans come election time?

1. "Bush was worse, you don't want that to happen again!"
2. "We got stuff done and your lives are better, let's keep going!"

This is why the Third Way Enterovirus has such a terrible track record in general elections: "We suck less", their battle cry, just doesn't get the job done. And now we have another election cycle coming up, and "it could be worse" is mostly we have to work with.

So, can y'all do me a solid? Can we banish "better than Bush" from this site, in all its permutations?

(Especially "better than Gonzales". That's just sick.)

I sure as hell won't miss the Holder Doctrine

I just hope it goes away, but I doubt it will.

A story I've told on DU before, but it's so striking that it's worth another turn: A few months ago I met up with an old friend who's reasonably high up in the DOJ. Since we were drinking, and I don't know when to shut my mouth even while sober, I asked him what was up with tons of bank execs getting jailed in the S&L meltdown a couple of decades ago, but none getting jailed from the far-larger bank meltdown in 2008.

To summarize what he told me:

- The banks likely committed serious crimes.
- But only the people at the top committed crimes. The lower-level folks likely did little that was illegal in itself, only when one puts the parts together is it illegal.
- Remember Enron? Prosecuting Enron's top brass destroyed it, and destroyed Arthur Andersen. Lots of innocent people lost jobs. This was an important lesson for really, really smart people.
- It would be bad for the innocent people at banks to lose their jobs.
- Ergo, hands off the execs. It's only to help the little people, you see.

(I responded with many naughty words, of course.)

It seems to me that Holder, like everyone in the Obama administration, always has some ludicrous excuse for why helping the wealthiest is really helping the 99%. Call it the Holder Doctrine, if you will.

"Hey! We're just helpin' you little folks! If you want [strike]justice for[/strike] revenge on the shrewd businessmen, you're just begrudging their success!"

We need to cut government jobs to create jobs. We need to make 82% of the Bush tax cuts permanent to create jobs. We need free trade agreements so that even-more cheap imports from outsourced jobs will create more jobs. We need to double H1B visas to create jobs.

Oh, brother.

Meanwhile, jobs aren't coming back. And they won't, until the people running our country cut the crap and start working for us. We need to make this clear to our fellow Americans, and we must come together to make it happen, or what's left of the American Dream will take one more short swirl and gurgle inexorably to the sewer.

Thought Experiment: How would Teddy or Franklin Roosevelt Handle the Current ISIS Situation

Of course, the question is inspired by the recent, excellent PBS series.
