The crashout on DU over the shutdown resolution is really over the top

This is not a normal shutdown. We're not dealing with G.W. Bush. We're dealing with a psychopathic president and majority party. They don't give a shit if thousands of people die. They would be content on letting this drag until next summer. THEY DO NOT CARE!

The Dems were not in a great position dealing with people that don't mind death. We do. I think many of the people here going crazy don't have to worry about their food. I know people who are in sheer panic about their kids eating. You all perfectly content with allowing hunger to make a political point.

Concerning health care, Trump would've never signed a bill for subsidies. We must realize that Republicans will NEVER fund Obamacare...shut down or no shut down. They don't care about skyrocketing premiums.

So we need to declare victory. We won it because we made it an issue. Before the shutdown, no one ever talked about the premiums exploding. Now everyone will blame Trump. This is the best we could hope for.

What leverage did we have? We have no leverage if the other side are psychopaths that don't give a rat's fuck about people dying.

The United States experiment was never designed to handle a person like Trump

Our country relied on presidents that respected tradition and values. We've never had such a blatant law breaker as Trump. The problem is that in our 2 party system, the same party holds both houses of Congress and will not do anything. So he's allowed to break the law unbothered. Impeachment is an utter joke. 67 senators are never going to vote the same way on anything.

What can be done to fix this in the future? Most changes would require Constitutional changes. I think one thing that can be done legislatively is that the DOJ should be placed under the Supreme Court. The president should be removed from this agency. Even if the Chief Justice appointed the Atty General, he would not likely be a MAGA loyalist. We've had Republican atty generals before that still did their jobs. Otherwise, we are now in a vicious cycle and this is not sustainable.

A Dem president in 2028 would probably not go for it as they'd lose power. But I'm thinking more for the future decades to prevent future Trumps, like DeSantis and others, who are smart enough to do even more damage. What do you all think?

So apparently a big time Trumper will eventually own Tik-Tok. Why did we support this?

Tik Tok will become Twitter 2.0. Larry Ellison, will likely take control. Can someone tell why Biden and the Dems thought this was a great idea? I would just assume China control it than Trump. Now a Trumper will control the algorithm and now people will be bombarded with right-wing shit that wasn't there before. Why didn't Biden see this coming?

How come CPB and PBS do not go private? Can't Bloomberg buy them or something?

Why is our side just letting them wither on the vine? We have plenty of big donors that could just buy them outright. They can't be THAT expensive. It's not like buying ABC or something.

The next time we have a trifecta in DC, we better have the biggest reconciliation bill of all time!!

The Repugs have managed to put all of their priorities in one bill. When we had all 3 levers of powers, we piece-mealed everything...using reconciliation for only things like health care. We must correct this mess and I want us to put all Dem priorities in one big, mega, monstrous bill if win back control of Congress and the WH in 2028! No freaking excuses this time!

Why don't people on our side call Trump a "Communist" instead?

I'm amazed that we still call him a fascist. Half the country doesn't even know what a fascist is, but everyone knows what communism is. Trump is trying to establish state control over everything in our society. It would be easy to pick him apart by calling him America's first communist president. Our politicians certainly don't get the bumper style politics.

There are no threads about Biden's return to the spotlight. Is that not permitted?

They would kill the filibuster if the govt. shutdown and it dragged on and on. Schumer doesn't want the filibuster gone. If so, we'd REALLY be in trouble as a nation. Every nutty idea Trump has would actually get codified into law. The thought is terrifying.

Are we allowed to discuss Gov. Newsom's position on the trangendered athlete issue
