Arrest made in fatal stabbing at Capitol Hill light rail station

SEATTLE — An arrest was made Monday in connection to a deadly stabbing at the Capitol Hill light rail station over the weekend.

According to the Seattle Police Department, a 26-year-old man was arrested in Eatonville. He was booked into King County Jail.

The neighborhood is grieving the loss of the victim, a chef at the well-known Capitol Hill restaurant, Harry's Fine Foods.

Police said shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, the 37-year-old was stabbed multiple times in the Capitol Hill light rail station. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This one is scary - my daughter's light rail stop, my old neighborhood. Apparently there was an "altercation" in the packed station, and the chef was stabbed in the neck and pushed off the platform, then prevented from climbing out. He bled out there, the station was closed, the line was closed. Straight up murders like that rarely happen in Seattle.

The stabber, one Shawn Patrick Moore, ran off to Eatonville, which is in the far SE of the region near Mt. Rainier. He's going to turn out to be a tweaker.

US says Gaza aid 'increased dramatically,' as convoys proceed via new crossing

Source: Times of Israel

Humanitarian aid getting into the Gaza Strip has increased by a large amount in the last few days, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said on Monday, adding the United States needs to see that aid continue.

“The aid has increased and quite dramatically in just the last few days,” Kirby said in an interview with MSNBC. “That’s important but it has to be sustained.”

More than 2,000 trucks have been able to get in, about 100 in the last 24 hours alone, Kirby said.

The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the Defense Ministry unit responsible for liaising with the Palestinians, announced on Sunday that three bakeries that reopened in northern Gaza in the past week are now producing some three million pita breads daily, and that food aid convoys are continuing via the new Northern Crossing.

Italy stabbing: One dead and Arsenal player among several injured

Source: BBC

One person has died and at least four others have been injured - some seriously - in a stabbing in a supermarket near Milan, northern Italy, reports say.

They say an employee of the Carrefour supermarket died after a man started attacking people in the town of Assago.

Among the injured was Pablo Mari, a football player on loan from Arsenal.

A 46-year-old suspect has been detained. The motive for the attack is not yet clear. The attacker has had mental health problems, the reports in Italian media said.

I shouldn't say that knife rampages are preferable to gun rampages, but the rate of death is lower.

"Mental health" is a global issue.

Torrential rains caused flooding in parts of Kentucky and Indiana on Saturday, and an area in southern Indiana got hit particularly hard.

Sacramento police make second arrest after mass shooting that left 6 dead

Source: CBS News

Police in Sacramento say a second suspect has been arrested in connection with the weekend mass shooting that killed six people and wounded 12. A police statement Tuesday says 27-year-old Smiley Martin was seriously injured in the gunfire early Sunday and remains hospitalized, but will be booked into jail once he is fit for incarceration.

He faces charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a machine gun.

Police say Martin is the brother of the first suspect, 26-year-old Dandrae Martin. Neither has been accused of homicide.

Yes, you read that right: Smiley Martin had a MACHINE GUN in downtown Sacramento and he used it on a crowd of people. Full-automatic weapon. Tell me again how guns make us safer.

Suspected Shooter in Normandale Park Mass Shooting Identified

Source: Portland Mercury

Smith, 43, has lived in an apartment across from Normandale Park for more than a decade, and has harbored growing animosity against Black Lives Matter protesters, COVID-19 mask mandates, unhoused Portlanders, and liberals, according to his roommate, Kristine Christenson.

Smith's brother told the Oregonian that Smith would often complain about the Justice for Patrick Kimmons demonstrations that regularly took place in Normandale Park. Kimmons was a Black man killed by Portland police in 2018. Kimmons supporters had gathered Saturday evening at Normandale to hold a demonstration in support of Amir Locke, a Black man killed by Minneapolis police earlier this month.

Christenson told the Oregonian that Smith collect guns, and kept at least four in his bedroom. "He talked about wanting to go shoot commies and antifa all the friggin' time," Christenson told OPB. "He was just a sad angry dude. ... He talked about wanting to do this for a while. He was angry at the mask mandates, he was angry at the damned liberals."

According to witnesses, Smith approached four unarmed woman gathered near Normandale Park Saturday night and yelled at them to leave. The women were all volunteers, assisting march organizers in slowing traffic to allow demonstrators to march down the street. Within minutes, Smith had allegedly opened fire on the four women, striking all four with bullets. One of the women, June Knightly, died at the scene.

Couple of observations:

1. This was ANOTHER unsable man with a gun, and of course, he shot women (and others). He doesn't appear to have been in any of Portland's RW Militias, but he sounds pretty RW.
2. A good guy with a gun shot a Rampage Shooter - an actual Defensive Gun Use - finally - and they were probably Antifa and/or BLM. Put that in your Anit-Antifa pipe and smoke it.

Antifa: 99.9% correct, or 100% correct?

Seems like their concerns and arguments have been vindicated. They warned us. They said the Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer, and the 3%ers were all Fascists and should be opposed, with force if necessary, every time they show their faces.

And Fascists they are.

Instead, they became Trumpism's useful villains, accused by paranoid, violent yahoos across America of planning schoolbus invasions of small towns most Antifa escaped as soon as they could. 41 towns full of gullible marks to con.

Not to mention "burning down everything last summer", as my Dad put it.

They stayed away from DC on 1/6. Why act when your enemy is busy hurting himself?

January 6, 2021

Asked my Trump-voting Dad if he was watching events in DC today.

I was factual, and did not provoke with my opinion: "National Guard coming to clear the Capitol of Trump Supporters."

His Response: "Not as bad as all of your friends last summer burning down everything."

Now I feel like I've failed as a son. How could I let him get so brainwashed? It is a sad day in America, and it should have been a happy one. Everything Trump touches dies, and he touched our Democracy.

Baker County Judge Invalidates Oregon Gov. Brown's COVID-19 Emergency Orders

Source: Oregon Public Broadcasting

The state of Oregon is open for business again, but not in the way Gov. Kate Brown hoped.

A Baker County judge has invalidated Brown's restrictions on businesses and social gatherings, along with every other executive order Brown has issued under a state of emergency she ordered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finding that Brown exceeded her statutory authority in extending that state of emergency, Baker County Circuit Judge Matthew Shirtcliff granted a preliminary injunction Monday on more than 20 orders dating back to March 12.

The judge declined to stay the order pending the review of a higher court, meaning it took effect immediately, according to Ray Hacke, the attorney who brought the challenge on behalf of faith groups, business owners and others.

Baker County has a population of 16,000. Baker City is the biggest dot on the map between La Grande and Ontario.
